Urban has thoughts on fans

He makes some good points. However, a coach should also not make a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory whether in big rivalry games or especially in games against conference cellar dwellers.

If he actually said that and it wasn't paraphrased then he's not coming to Austin. No way he says fans at places like Texas and Michigan have unreal expectations then comes here.

I hate to have to agree, but I think you are correct. It was a subtle way to do it, but I am now much less confident in his being HC next year.

He could be playing along with Texas. His love for Ohio State runs pretty deep and there has become pretty stiff recruiting competition for Texas top talent. Sounds crazy? Yea, maybe.

If I was a betting man,I would say that he is not coming to Texas. I think we are stuck with Herman after the win today. He beats Kansas and he is 7-3. That seems to make CDC happy. He will save the money and say all our problems were on covid this year.

I think its pretty much Urban or bust, if cant get him we will stick with tommy terrific for another year. I wish that weren't the case but I suspect it is.

I don't disagree with him, but losing when another team is better is one thing, losing because of penalties, turnovers and poor in game decisions is another. Along with poor handling of the political issues and alienating HS coaches.

You just can't do those tings and remain coach at Texas. It's basic common sense.

I had posted this^^^^^ Urban piece on fire Herman thread and we discussed...I believe the following may have been posted there already, too, but Herbie said the same thing on air. ..except more direct...specifically calling out Texas.
You can bash them if you want...and I dont completely agree with them...but they should be listened to as they both made valid points. I will say, though, that these media heads are leaving out alot of the other relevant facts for the "other side" argument.
Singling out a few aspects of this very complex situation on air really isn't very even handed or fair....though again they highlight valid concerns

Their fanbase is mostly lunatics. Reasonable people until it comes to the football team. If Herbie made remarks they don't like, this doesn't surprise me he would feel unsafe and have to move.

Herbestreit lost me for good this year.
Meyer is correct, I’m not reading into it. He stated facts. It’s like saying the Sun is hot. If we hire Meyer expect more of him saying what’s on his mind.
But that is why he is Meyer.

Herman is ok but ok isn’t good enough for UT or the amount of money he makes.

Yep, Herbie crying like a little baby on TV a few months ago. Absurd.

The difference in a guy like Meyer telling it like it is and maybe coming across arrogant or not suffering fools in the media is a track record to go on. Herman has jack squat to go on. His arrogance is really just defensiveness.

Remember CDC came from a school that is satisfied with 8-2,7-3. He had Patterson who does more with the talent he has and coaches up three stars to win. Maybe CDC thinks Herman can do the same. I dont think he cares about the fan base and feels he can win over the BMDS over time. If we keep Herman we will have to get use to this type of win, loss record. I have no faith in CDC or Herman. I am a small money doner who has donated for over 30 years. My money has dried up on this duet. I find it increasingly hard to root for this team. My money and time can be spent better elsewhere.

From the sampling of emails that @Joe Fan has posted, I'm sure the bottom line being affected has sealed Herman's fate.

I would like to know how CDC and Hartzell look back at their actions and compromises of this past summer? Any regrets? I admit I wrote too, but mine was not included.

Not sure who is UM agent since he left tOSU but UM is in a unique position of being an NC winning HC in the current era. Add to that he has a platform on FOX that gives him access to every AD and Admin in the country.

The piece comes off to me not as negotiating tool for more money or power to be HC but as an explanation of the situation that exists at the level of blueblood Tier 1 football programs in CFB. A group of less than 10 divided into the Haves - Bama, Clemson, ND, tOSU, GA, OU the Wannabes OR, tamu, FL, LSU, Mia and the Havenots - TX, MI, PSU, USC, TN, Neb, FSU and a few on the outside without the same history on NC level show which teams with Top Tier 1 HC are actually few.

Without the confirmation bias that UM represents everything that fans at TX say will bring CCG and CFP NC wins in a season or two the real question is what does UM want at this stage in his life.

IDK and so far no one else has posted that they do.

My guess is that UM may choose to take the TX HC position and all that it entails including unrealistic fan/BMD expectations but he may also be looking at the number of places that have an easier and less stessfull path to the coveted Top Tier Blueblood status.

USC is P12 or ND as Independent/ACC at a future date may be more attractive.

We're Texas.

Hindsight being 2020 I blame UT President Hartzell, AD CDC and HC TH for the manner and length of time it has taken to address the entire Eyes/BL/racial issue.

It is Dec and the Blue Ribbon Committee has been named.

Fans at every elite program have unrealistic expectations.
That comes with the lofty unrealistic compensation packages. If you don't want unrealistic expectations then quit asking for top dollar.

Personally i'd like to see a de-escalation in College Football. I think we have screwed up a beautiful thing the last 15 years. We've let money dictate too much and we've turned our ATHLETE-students into Rent-a-jocks and it is destroying the thing about College Football that made it so different from the NFL.
