I am in need of a place to eat before Semi-formal coming up. Price isn't a huge deal, I just want some damn good food
suggestions?

How about downtown area or North austin, not way south is good for location
also- steak and seafood type place, does that help any?

It's probably tough to top Truluck's for steak & seafood. Other options would be Fleming's or the Shoreline Grill.

McCormick & Schmick's just opened up at the new Frost Bank building downtown. I went there on Valentine's and it was excellent.

Jeffrey's..... trust me no place else besides Hudson's holds a candle to it

The Driskill Grill--America's Best New Chef, 2003
Cafe at the Four Seasons
Eddie V's
Aquarelle
Fonda San Miguel
Truluck's
Fleming's
...in that order

Never been a big fan of Jeffrey's, which is good, but not great.

I've eaten at Aquarelle a few times and I have never really been impressed. However, I really like Chez Nous, but I have only had two dishes there (although I haev had the filet with red wine sauce like 30-40 times). I think its excellent and if you want to try French food, I'd highly recommend it. It put my list as:
Jeffery's
Vespio
Trulucks
Chez Nous
Uchi
Hudson's on the Bend
-in no particular order, as sometimes I am in the mood for one, and sometimes another.

-I am not listing a steak house as I dont think that there is one which has steaks which are consistantly better than Trulucks and Trulucks has more variety. There is no Bob's or Al Beirnat's in austin. Not to mention the Managing partner is a good friend of mine so I go all the time.

I love Chez Nous! It's not upscale, but intimate and romantic. Forgot about Gumbo's--had lunch there today and it was deeelicious, as always.
