Update on No. 20 for 2014!

As of right now, we don't have a No. 20 commit & we're sitting at 19 total for 2014!

Now let's talk the Foreman brothers...
247Sports reported Sunday that Mom & Grandma visited with MB & Staff in Austin over the weekend and Texas expected the D'Onta (2* RB) & Armanti (4* WR) to commit! Sunday night, D'Onta was ready to commit, but Armanti was not... so there's the predicament. This is not a one or the other scenario as the brothers are concerned, but they have publicly acknowledged they were going to play together at the same school in college. Now they both don't want to commit at the same time... is this a, "where there's smoke, there's fire" situation? Don't know... only the boys do.

Bobby Burton at Texas.247sports.com about an hour ago said this... "I have the distinct feeling that Texas has stood pat with their idea of taking both or neither. Like I wrote yesterday, I think it's an unnecessary risk for Texas to take."

That's the latest...

... or they won't or one will and may be followed by the other....

I think they are a package deal when all is said and done, here or elsewhere.

maybe a schollie and a preferred walkon or greyshirt. only time will tell.

potential scholarships - a quick count shows 15 seniors on the roster for 2013. add maybe one or two to go to the draft then a few who leave or end their careers early. abra cadabra - low 20's for the class of 2014.

disclaimer - all the above is based on conjecture and no inside info so this post is worthless other than as a thought provoker.

Anyone have a sub to the ESPN Insider???

It seems to me like one way to manipulate the recruiting numbers is that, although you are supposed to only sign 50 commitments over a two year period, you can count some of those numbers back to the previous year's takes. Since UT only took 15 in 2013 (does anyone know if any of those could be counted against 2012), 35 commitments would technically be available for 2014 for the 2 year span limit. As to the total scholarships available of a possible 85, they can only be estimated since any coming attrition is, to some extent, unknown.

I'm only surmising all of this, so if anyone else has more accurate information, please correct me.

I suppose I just cannot get my arms around signing this many receivers. Are we going to change
the rules and run a seven-wide spread? There is no way that as we get closer to signing day
that some of these guys will look at the list of potential competitors and not go elsewhere. Meanwhile,
we may have cut off -- due to limits -- guys at other positions who have already given up. We'll see,
but this looks like an Alabama-type process, and that is not what we usually do.

In all honesty, I don't believe D'Onta is a Texas caliber recruit and would only get the offer to come on his brothers coattails. Now it appears that Armanti is balking at committing to Texas and is being pushed hard by the Sooners.

If they play together, it will be a package deal - wherever that is.

In 2012, UT signed 28, some of which counted toward the 2011 allowed 25. I think it was the 3 excess that counted against 2011 so 2012 had 25 counters. Therefore, all of 2013's 15 recruits were 2013 counters leaving room for 12 of the 2014 to potentially be counted toward 2013 if the 85 total scholarship limit is not exceeded.

Can new scholarships be assigned to recruiting totals from a season 2 years prior to the current class or only to the immediately preceding class total? If the 85 limit prevents the use of all 12 of the remaining 2013 count by the 2014 class, can some of the 2015 class be counted toward the 2013 annual total of 25?

Seems you have to be an accounting magician to keep track of and take full advantage of the scholarship limits.

Only the immediately preceding class total.
