is the best movie ever in the history of movies. Really. Ok. Not really but I can't believe how much I like this movie.

Prequel...Carl and Ellie as newlyweds on some little adventure. How awesome would that be?

Wall-E is my favorite Pixar movie though.

Mrs. NameWithheld started to cry during the opening so I knew we were in trouble.........

As an adult, I never really watched or cared for animated movies. Now that I have a four-year-old, I'm discovering a treasure trove of great flicks like Finding Nemo, the Toy Story and Shrek series, Incredibles, and Kung Fu Panda, the latter of which put me and my daughter in a fit of side-splitting laughter.

I know they're still kids movies, but they're very well made with a nice touch of subtle mature humor and impressive star power behind the voices.

On the one hand, I miss the days of heading to Alamo on a Friday night with just the wife for beer, food and grown-up movies. On the other hand, there's nothing quite like sitting on the couch on a Friday night next to my kid with popcorn, a few beers (for me, not the kid), and a pretty entertaining animated flick.

This is really the golden age of wonderful animated movies for kids.

Besides those listed:
1. How to Train Your Dragon (Really, really good)
2. Monsters, Inc. (I'm sure you know this already)
3. Bolt (very clever movie you may have missed)

The little vignette at the start of UP was surprisingly moving.

I was not ready for that at all. I have two little kids and I really like watching the Pixar films especially. A lot of depth for cartoons.

My favorite movie of all time is an animated film. There's nothing wrong with appreciating this form of art. And actually, voicing an animated film is very difficult, so the actors who do it well deserve kudos.

Mrs. NameWithheld started to cry during the opening ....

I think I know the exact scene that caused this.

It was brilliantly done. So simple, so direct, so evocative, so emotional.

Not that I worship at the altar of Ebert, but here's what he had to say:

Nothing is heard from him for years. Ellie and Carl (Edward Asner) grow up, have a courtship, marry, buy a ramshackle house and turn it into their dream home, are happy together and grow old. This process is silent, except for music (the elder Ellie doesn't even have a voice credit). It's shown by Docter in a lovely sequence, without dialogue, that deals with the life experience in a way that is almost never found in family animation. The lovebirds save their loose change in a gallon jug intended to finance their trip to the legendary Paradise Falls, but real life gets in the way: flat tires, home repairs, medical bills. Then they make a heartbreaking discovery. This interlude is poetic and touching.

While I don't really believe this is the greatest movie ever made in the history of the world, this is a very well made, well developed, inciteful and heart warming movie. If you don't like this movie, you are a big fat goober. Really, you are.

Never been an animated movies. My baby girl is 3 soon, so I have gotten a heavy dose of them lately. I have rediscovered my love for Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, and I absolutely LOVE Pixar movies. The scene described at the beginning of Up gives me chills thinking about it. The movie was great. Asner's character was wonderful. The dogs were genius.

Also, Ratatoullie is a great movie. Cars is great. Finding Nemo is probably my favorite. Never seen Wall-E. Would a 3 year old like it?

Up and Wall-E are incredible movies that don't belong in the same class as movies like kung-fu panda and cars. They are on a completely different level.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with the Cars and Kung-Fu Panda, they are awesome. If you like them, I would suggest Over the Hedge. Quite possibly one of the funniest movies I've ever watched.

Monsters, Inc is one of our favorites. When the little girl, Boo, calls the big hairy monster 'kitty' I just crack up. So good.

Also, there's a good documentary on Netflix we watched recently: The Pixar Story. It's a really interesting look inside the company and its history.

"Cars" is boring. Dramatic drop off from par, and is the only Pixar film I'll change the channel instead of watching it through.

The rest are great.

Based on this thread I bought the bluray of this movie. I am watching it now for the first time and it is magnificent! Wow, what a treat. I figured I would watch a little bit of it and get on with chores and errands before game time. I was wrong. I am not doing anything until this is over.

The youngest Lostbaby is now 16, but we still watch many of the animated films coming out today. Many of them, Up being the first one that comes to mind, have rich stories. The others are just good for a great coupla hours of belly laughs.

I think the original Toy Story started it. The cartoon movies these kids a growing up with are so different than the ones we grew up with. As much as I love The Incredible Mr. Limpett, it is kind of hard to sit there now and watch with as much awe and wonder as I do with today's cartoon movies. Heck, after watching Rio, I sit and just marvel at the CG images and effects!
