unlocking iPhone

My two year commitment to AT&T is up next month and I'm ready to upgrade from my iPhone 3G to the 4G. At the same time it so happens we want to give my son his first phone. I was planning on giving him my phone and disable the Safari app until I saw that AT&T wanted $75 extra a month from me. That's not going to happen.

TMobile has a prepaid plan that provides unlimited texting for $15/mo. and voice for $0.10 per minute. That's perfect for my son. All this leads to the question of how do I get my iPhone to work with a TMobile SIM card? Is it as simple as buying my new 4G then inserting a TMobile SIM into the old iPhone? What's the downside to any of this?

I did google "unlock iPhone 3G" and got a bunch of sites that: a) wanted $30, and b) told me to be careful of those OTHER sites that wanted $30. When I'm at the Apple store later this month and the clerk/genius is moving my SIM card to my new 4G, couldn't they just unlock my 3G (especially if I had an upcoming trip to a foreign country

T-Mobile unlocked my Android phone for a trip overseas. I called and told them why I wanted it done and they did it. Maybe your company will as well or have you asked and they said F off?

Apple will definitely not help you unlock the iPhone. AT&T officially won't either, but call tech support enough and you might lucky to have someone quitting their job soon who is willing to help you.

Honestly your best bet is Google and Youtube for instructions. You will probably have to download some kind of cracking software onto it.

$30 is ridiculous. I told you blackra1n, it's an automated software unlocking program that takes all of a couple minutes to do. You just plug your phone into your computer, run the program, and do what it says and your phone will be unlocked. Simple as that.
