UNDERCOVER BOSS on CBS

I only caught the last 1/3 of the show but I enjoyed it. I look forward to next week when the CEO of Hooter's goes undercover. They tease us with the scene where a manager is way out of line and he says it was tough to just let that go at that moment when he was still undercover. Somebody is going to get in a lot of trouble!

I liked it... I'd like to see them go back in a year (or more) and see what policy changes have been made and how the company has responded to these changes because of this show.

Not sure this was the best advertisement for a UT education. Cut payroll; increase pressure to perform; and wonder why you have an unsettled workforce?

At least he was a quick enough study to realize the potential of the woman at the landfill.

The WM CEO guy was a nice guy... but this seems like a "look how human upper management is" pieces which comes off more as corporate propaganda than anything informative or even entertaining. If the purpose was to show us how disconnected the top was from the bottom, they didn't really sufficiently bring that point home. I didn't so much care for the implication that the people on the top are good soldiers, and the people on the bottom are good soldiers, it is those damned people in the middle which are the problem... considering that the people in the middle are just implementing the policies handed down from above. The follow up from WM is that not a single substantive change was made as a result of the experience, and so the whole thing comes off feeling like a PR exercise for mega-company CEOs... and frankly, I'm not done being mad at them yet.

Which is to say, this particular CEO seemed like a good guy, but the show itself gives me the heebies.

While watching it, I noticed how great all the WM managers and employees seemed. I turned to my wife, and said I hope they aren't all like this and we get to see a Pres find out one of his underlings is a huge piece of ****... then BOOM the Hooter's promo for next week. I hope it's everything it seems...

I got the impression -- and maybe I'm wrong, because I was only kind of half-watching -- that Larry was surprised to find that the recycling plant had the 2-minute penalty in place. He might not have known about this particular policy.

I thought the show was pretty good overall. I've worked for companies in which upper management was completely out of touch with reality, and at least this CEO wanted to know more about how his company functions in relation to the real world.

That's just it, at the end of the day, the impression I got was that the CEO did it to get good publicity for his company, publicity that the producers seemed all too happy to give. As such I was left wondering which bits were staged and which bits were "real". The entire premise of the show seems incredibly manipulative.

The girl who got the promotion at the end – my gut tells me she knew who the guy was. Her direct manager knew he was coming, and we are supposed to believe some first level manager kept this legit? No. He handpicked his best and warned her to not say anything to make them look bad.

On the boss. Who gives someone a huge raise and promotion based on being with them for one questionable day? You shouldn’t think negatively of someone based on one day too. Everybody has good and a bad days, and surely someone is going to put on a good face for one day while the cameras are on.

Mia1994 hit on something. This almost looks like propaganda to improve the faltering image of corporate executives, so they can continue driving up the market price for executives, raping their companies, and maintain toothless boards who get kickbacks for keeping status quo.

All said – I love the show and find it very entertaining.

It was staged - how on earth did the semi-retarded lady (sorry i don't know a more PC way to put it) have a letter all typed up and ready for the cameras on that day?

I thought I heard one of them say that they were going under the guise of the company doing a documentary, so that's probably why it seemed staged, as people knew cameras were going to be there. Not necessarily that the boss was going to be undercover. The mentally challenged chick with the letter made this even more apparent to me because that was definitely planned by the woman.
