UnderAmour Game

Starting LT, LG and C are all future Longhorns.

Shepard looks electric so far but QB instincts seem to be lacking. Ground breaking analaysis, I know.

came in on the black team's third drive (Shep started and Nunes came in next for some reason). From the passes I recall, he overthrew a slot receiver on a seam (WR wasn't really looking for it even though he was open), tried to force an out route and almost had it picked (looked like it was off his back foot somewhat), and on a 4th and short, escaped the pocket and eluded a linemen but had to force it into double coverage and Loston nearly had a one-handed pick.

Hasn't had much success yet but honestly, it looks like he's not getting much help from his receivers. Seems like it happens a lot in these all star games, receivers aren't used to facing such athletes and have trouble getting open.

Gilbert got sack/stripped by OU committ Chaisson (after he beat Kelley) but GG fell on it.

They are definetly giving Barkley a shot at showing himself. He has played the first 4 series for the White team while the black squad is rotating. That makes it tougher to get a rythm for Gilbert and co.

Shepard has no protection at all on that last drive. Who was on his line?

In fact, the black offensive line doesn't look very good at all...

I am very gad that our oine is stacked and will not be needing these freshmen any time soon. The black team's line looks like crap, and Kelly has definately gotten abused.

Greg Reid is a stud.
RS is looking pretty good, as well.

ya know...when a guy says 'good academic' four times as the reason he is considering committing, he loses some credibility in my book.

Thoughts:

1. Never judge from these games....the same with the McD's basketball game. While football AA games may seem more structured, they arent. No blitzing, simplistic coverages, lack of cohesiveness on the OL and the QB-WR's.

2. I did think the black teams OL did not look too good....But see #1.

3. GG had good and bad moments. I thought his snaps were always low causing a slow start on each play. He had nice snap on throws (something he certainly didnt have in the skills challenge). He could use a lesson on "don't throw into coverage". His receivers dropped several passes.

4. I don't understand why the black team didnt call a TO on that last long pass by GG. Sure, scoring a TD there would not win the game but come on.

5. The QB's in general were MUCH better in this game than the AA game. Barkley looked fantastic.....Sheppard has great athleticism but his passing looks suspect and he looks really short. I wish the Black team had rotated QB's the same way the White team did. Its tough to only come in once every three series and get on rhythm.

6. I thought the Army game seemed more "real" to me than this game. Not sure why.

7. Lastly....Wow....Miami got some real intelligent kids last night. Also, the kid that committed to Cal...I was in the kitchen and heard him....He sounded retarded. As I watched these commitments I couldnt help but once again think that it is a good thing that most Texas kids commit early. I think there is something to say about kids who drag the process out (not all of them mind you).

I thought the officiating was the worst ever. Anytime, anyplace. Holding be damned even tackeling by OL was not called.

They let the clock run the last three minutes or so. Never stopped it.
Sheppard mugged the camera a lot and seemed undiciplined and full of himself. I think we made a great choice. That last pass Gilbert threw was awsome. He tried to call timeout but the ref would not let him. They were trying to finish the game before 10pm.

1. GG looked a little off most of the game. Maybe he was nervous.
2. Ronnell Lewis is going to be a BEAST. Amazing to think he was playing 8-man football until this past year. He flies to the ball and can really lay the lumber.
3. Greg Reid looks underrated.
4. Barkley does not.
5. Chaisson is going to be a DT and would be ideal as a 3-4 DE.
6. Wort is fun to watch.

I really wish Texas had gone after Wort, he would work great with Muschamp I think. The black team offense all seemed to be a bit off. Shepard will make some big time runs in the future, but not sure I would want him running the offense every down.
