While this occurred under the Obama administration, overseen by Biden and also the US State Department via the Embassy, the current Secretary of the Treasury, Mnuchin, fully understands what was going on and actively worked to squelch any investigation from the US side. To me, this shows Trump as being naive or incompetent as shown by his selection of swamp creatures named to his cabinet, ostensibly to clean the swamp in which they manage.
