thinking about going to uk in the fall. what tour group would you recommend. kind of nervous about going by ourselves the first time to london, etc.

London is a very easy city to get around. With a little planning and research upfront, there shouldn't be a need to go with a tour group. That way you can be more flexible when you get there

I agree with Euro - there's no need for a tour in London, and if you do your research, you can get to anywhere else by train. We were there for 8 days, and I planned each one. We spent a day taking the barge down the Thames to Hamption Court. Spent a day seeing Windsor Castle and the surrounds, and a day in a quaint little villiage we picked from a guide book. The rest of the time we were in London, and saw a ton of things. My favorite - I was stuck trying to cross the street to meet the rest of my group at Westminster Abbey, and couldn't find a place to cross. I ended up talking to a local who asked if I had been to see Parliament yet. I said regrettably not, because I had been a government teacher, and he offered to give me a quick tour. As we were heading toward the entrance I asked him if he worked there, and he said "Yes, I'm a MP." Cool!! He was giving a tour to a Princeton prof who was friends with one of his constituents, so I joined them. He took us to places we wouldn't be able to go on our own, which was great. The Princeton prof was a little ticked off that I had been picked up off the street to join his tour!! Moral to the story - talk to anyone - you might have some interesting experiences.
