Judson's new district is a joke. But damn, 26-5A is now re-loaded with Smithson Valley. At least my Lee Volunteers won't have to get our teeth kicked in every year by the Rockets, but I'm sure Smithson Valley will pick up the slack.
That district was arguably the best in the state when I played (92-94) Judson won (Big 5A) state I think two times and then in 95 Roosevelt won the regular 5A.
Dallas Carter's enrollment has been on the 4A level for many years. They had always requested to play in 5A. Apparently with the past average winning seasons, they are going to compete in 4A now.
OK folks...schools are all classified by enrollment levels, have been as long as I can remember...and that is longer than most of you have been alive.
If a school went from 4A to 5A, it has more students, today, than it did the last time they realigned. If a school moved from 4A to 3A they now have less students than they used to. They don't move schools down because they don't play up to a higher classification's standards and visa versa.
I'd welcome the UIL to oversee college football, as opposed to the ncaa...at the very least we'd have a playoff.
Dallas Carter's enrollment was at a 4A level for years . . . in the past they had asked to be moved to play in 5A. This year they accepted the 4A classification.
Toughest District in the State, 26-5A looses Judson and Wagner, but picks up a now 5A New Braunfels.
I was suprised that Judson made it to the State Championship Game since their school was basically split in half. They were like 2 schools in one with over 5000 students. Time will tell what will happen with the talent pool split, although I have heard rumors that there are some dubious goings on in the Enrollment zone for Judson and Wagner. Wagner is coached by Pete Gibbons, who used to coach at Judson, and basically owes Judson everything.
Smithson Valley has been in 26-5A for about 8 years now. They remain, and LBJ (new NEISD school) and New Braunfels enters. Only difference is Judson and Wagner moving out.
