Who do we root for? My view is that we need UCLA to be a one seed because someone has to be the one seed in the west. If we are going to be a one seed(looks like we will be), I'd rather not be the one seed in west with UCLA as the 2.
I agree with your thinking. It's probably best for us if UCLA keeps winning and locks up the #1 seed in the West. I would hate for us to get the #1 seed, only to have to play #2 UCLA in Phoenix.
However, it's so difficult to root for teams with which we are in contention for a #1 seed. The natural reaction is to root against teams like that. As a result, I will probably find myself rooting for UCLA to lose.
If UCLA is not the one in the west, I would think we would be the one shipped out there.(Still hoping we can pass Memphis and Tenn as overall number 1)
The 4th #1 seed will be shipped to Phoenix if UCLA is a 2. For UCLA to be a 2 and not in Phoenix, they'd probably have to lose two more regular season games so they're not the outright Pac 10 champ and maybe even lose again in the conf. tourney. That's not very likely, so instead I hope they keep winning so they get a 1 seed out west. As bierce said, Memphis, Tennessee, Duke and UNC losing is more important. But let's face it - Memphis losing again is doubtful as well as Duke and UNC losing to someone other than each other. I think there's a better chance Tennessee loses at Florida next week and maybe again in the SEC tourney. That would kick them down to a 2, put Duke or UNC in Charlotte, and put UT in Detroit. It's not Houston, but at least it means probably avoiding UCLA or UNC (the two teams I fear most) until the Final Four.
But if UCLA does lose this week, I'm buying a Stanford Tree and becoming a huge Cardinal fan right away!!!
