tonight.

memphis will surprise them just like they did to us.

As long as there arent any miracle calls for UCLA.. im pretty sure its safe to say they are done tonight.

I respectfully disagree. UCLA plays some nasty defense. I think they frustrate Memphis and win a low-scoring squeeker.

I love DJ, but Collison's defense makes him the better player.

I can see where their D might have an advantage.

But defense can be broken apart no matter what.
Every D has a hole, and thus and opportunity to score.

Its really going to come down to which team shoots lights out.
Memphis IMO has shown more at-will scoring than any other team in the tourney.

Memphis is 37-1, a slight favorite in Vegas and thoroughly dismantled two good squads last weekend in Houston. If they win, and I think they will, I don't think too many people will be surprised. UCLA has experience going for them, but have caught an awful lot of breaks the last few weeks. I say Memphis by 6-8 pts.

I just meant how athletic they were.

I hadn't really sat down and watched a Memphis game until they played us. I had thought because of their weak conference we might have an actual advantage. But those guys were huge and they all could run just as fast as our guards.

I guess it was just me who underestimated them.

I thought we would try to press them at some point. We never did. I assume that Barnes felt that they could handle our press easy and beat us in an uptempo game. I kind of disagree. If we are going to play a 3 guard lineup, you have to trust that you can out run the other team. Tennessee whipped Memphis in an uptempo game.

My money is on UCLA. Ben Howland is the better coach and maybe the best coach in the tournament. The Bruins defense will stifle the Tigers and Love will be the difference in a close game.

dirtysooner,
Memphi is good but you think their conf was better than they got credit for??
you need to pay a bit more attention. i dont know who is giving that conf any credit at all. UH and UAB were the next 2 and they were both avg at best, on a good day with the with blowing the ball in. the rest of the conf might as well been lose to their respective womens teams. CUSA can be better, UAB and UH should be better but are not. hopefully that will change in the future or memphis might reach UNC/UCLA/Indiana status in terms of all time wins rather quickly.

Uninformed, UT would have been beaten by 30+ if they would have pressed. The reasons that Bob mentioned are some, but also if you try to trap with our small guards it would get ugly. They would have passed over the top of the traps with their height advantage and dunked it every time.

If any thing we should have sat in the zone and not come out more than a few feet of the paint and made them shoot 3's all game. That's basically what Tenn. did.

I know we played zone, but I thought we came out too far when we where in it. Left a huge hole in the middle for them to pick us apart.

Memphis has looked better so far, but UCLA has had a lot of calls going their way this season.

If it is a close one, I think UCLA is more likely to advance. OTOH, I can see Memphis blowing them out by > 10 points, but not the other way around.
