UCI/LSU ... Game #3

I suspect this will be the best game of the post-season so far, once you take into account what's at stake/on the line.

Winner to Omaha ... last game at The Box.

Whoever wins tonight will be "my team" once I roll into Nebraska on Friday night.

Electric atmosphere ...

LSU is NOT ******* around ... repeat, NOT ******* around.

4-0, bottom 1 ... 2 HR's, no outs ... crowd in a freaking frenzy.

God I love college baseball.

5-0, back-to-back-to-back HRs for LSU.

Alex Box is rocking. The Disch used to sound like that.

I'm not sure The Disch has ever been on par with The Box ... if even for one night.

FSU and LSU crowds have blown me away this post season.

Alex Box >> Disch
Tiger Stadium >>>>> DKR

I've been to plenty of games at all 4 places and I love both teams, but there is a night and day difference between the crowds.

We had that Penn State super regional won before the first pitch was thrown. I remember the PSU infielders were clearly rattled from the get go. They weren't used to being taunted with "DE-FENSE! DE-FENSE!" chants after an error.

Is anyone still watching this game?

I thought the name of LSU's baseball stadium was ALEX BOX. The announcers keep pronouncing it as ALEC BOX.

Thank you. That's been driving me crazy. I figured it was Alex, but you never know about some crazy Cajun pronunciation.

Disch-FALK was rocking in 1983 when the Horns put a hurtin' on Mississippi State to earn a trip to Omaha in the old conventional format. I don't think there was an empty seat in the place and everyone was on their feet. It was electric.

The Penn State Super came close.

The Disch was a-rockin pretty hard against Miami in 1991. Avenging the Cotton Bowl earlier that year.

Dont recall if it was a regional or nonconf game.

HOOKEm

The Box family has said on more than one occasion that his name is said Alec, but there's understandably nothing wrong with saying Alex. I'm proud for that stadium, and for LSU to be represented by, a solid, solid alumnus turned soldier, much less a good athelete and student (petroleum engineering if I recall correctly).

There's a small exhibit in the LSU sports museum on him. He died taking out some German machine gun nests single-handedly. It's was got him the post-humous Distinguished Service Cross (again, if I recall correctly).

Also, these kids are probably gonna dogpile. You'll excuse them I hope, as most of our team is frosh and sophomores. They've never been there before, so I don't think they care to act like they have.

cochamps,

Indeed it was. Labay came up big for us because our arms really needed a rest. That was the afternoon game, and I don't know if Disch-FALK has ever been hotter than that particular game. IT had to be about 1,000 degrees! Then we came back that night and just destroyed Mississippi State to earn our trip to Omaha.

That was the year we started saying, "OMAHA!" instead of "Goodbye" when singing Steam's Kiss Him Goodbye. The song started in the top of the 9th, softly, and got progressively louder as we got closer and closer to clinching the win. I've been told that we could be heard singing several blocks away.

It was amazing.
