U.S. to shoot down failing spy satellite

So... Now that you blow up the satellite carrying hydrazine... Where does the hydrazine go?

I guess I'm missing the physics of this... Are they trying to hit the satellite at a point where the hydrazine would not fall back to Earth? Or are they counting on the missile burning the fuel up?

The article says that if they can't destroy the entire satellite they at least hope to rupture its fuel tank. So the goal is to disperse the fuel before it enters the atmosphere.

Will W. personally shoot it down?

If so, flight suit and an F-16, or just a cowboy get-up and six-shooters?

Instead of a tax rebate I think every citizen should get their own personal missle to shoot at the satellite... the winner gets the entire rebate pot.

Also important is the need to ensure that the satellite itself burns up on reentry and can't be captured and studied.

Doesn't this validate China's ASAT test? If it could happen to one of our satellites it could happen to one of theirs, thus necessitating a shoot down.

Wow, I was wondering when somehow GWB would be brought into this... Except I thought it would be Summer of 79, first.

honestly, this is a ******* awesome demonstration of our ******* awesomeness.

and i think that is partly the point. of course, another part of it is to eliminate a useless sat and to make sure that no one else benefits from our technology.

long run = if this shoot down is successful, then we are all winners.

and yes, naiji is correct. if there was a way to televise this, then that would make it that much more ******* awesome.
