U of O poaching Texas

Oregon inking Seastrunk, Donte Williams and Josh Huff (yanked away from TCU) out of the state of Texas was totally a surprise. Anyone see this one coming?

That means they signed TX's #1,2, and 15 best running backs in the 2010 class.

looks like the state of oregon has a nice texas pipeline going, also with the Rodgers bros at Oregon st.

Im glad to see that Seastrunk went to Oregon. He is going to be fun to watch in that offense.

I posted this elsewhere, but being familiar with the family of a heavily recruited skill player in the 2011 class, I can tell you what Oregon has told them. This isn't by accident, or just because Oregon is a hot program right now. The stated intent of the Oregon staff is to increase recruiting efforts in Texas in order to make a real push to cherry pick several skill players annually.

Huff leaving wasn't a surprise. This is like his 5th commitment and he was recently photographed in hundreds of dollars worth of nike oregon gear.

BevoNation, TCU had more yards rushing per game than oregon last year. But Huff would've been a slot receiver at TCU anyways. Too much depth at RB.

If okie's having their troubles these days getting the best talent out of Texas, and Notre Dame, USC, LSU, and the like have a diminishing toehold on recruiting the state...somehow, I have trouble imagining the Ducks setting up some kind of recruiting pipeline here year-after-year. (...except for players who like to dress out in God-awful unis.)

The State of Oregon has fewer people than the DFW Metroplex, and they have two state schools. Not a lot of in-state talent available there, so they may as well go and cherry-pick some OOS talent whenever they can. I can't blame them for that...California is their favorite state, simply due to geography, but it would be foolish not to try and nab a few good Texas boys, too.

Now that said...I'll know UT's recruiting efforts are in big trouble when we start getting beaten out by Oregon for top recruits on a consistent basis. Until then, I'm not planning on losing any sleep over it. For the most part, we got the pick of the litter this year, in spades.

As for Seastrunk, I would much rather see him playing for the Ducks than for USC. We'll be fine.

Oregon?

We should just do what Nebraska did, and Suh 'em...

If I wanted to get out of Texas to play ball I'd consider Oregon as well... one of the most beautiful places in the country (Oregon coast, Cascades, Bend, Mt Hood, Crater Lake, etc). They make some of the best beer in the world and they grow some mighty fine pinot there as well. Eugene and Corvallis aren't necessarily Portland, but Portland might be the one town in America most like Austin culturally and those college towns are just an hour (Corvallis) or two (Eugene) from Portland.

don't forget oregon's freshman all-american RB that stepped up when LaGarette Blount was suspended. I think he's from Texarkana, TX (like me!)--LaMichael James. He is very fast and a homerun threat when he gets the ball.

Moved to Portland ten years ago. Really love it here. A lot of Texans here and the majority of them are from Austin. Lot of similarities between the two cities. And as TexasRx says, it's a beautiful place. Drive west to the coast in a little over an hour or snow skiing to the east in the same amount of time. Have a pretty active Ex group here as well.

If your a rb, especially a rb with a skill set like Seastruck, why wouldnt you wanna go to Oregon. I hate to admit it, but our blocking scheme in this current spread offense isn't gonna allow for a very effective running game...period. Some people may point to Jamal Charles and say SEEE it can be done, but did you guys see what Jamaal Charles did in the the NFL in just his 2nd year as a 22 year old? That dude is unreal. LaMichael James wouldnt have as much success in our offense, and IMO Tre Newton would have had a very similar year to LaMichael James in Oregons offense. We have to change our blocking scheme or just get rid of our Oline coach.

i still think it's interesting relative to their distance from texas and comparing their success here to other national programs that recruit in texas.
