Tyrone Swoopes

I heard me may be in Austin for BYU game. Many probably haven't heard of him since he's from a 2A school. This Jr QB is special- had a 92 yd TD run along with a 50 yd int return for TD. And he's an excellent student. I live very close to Whitewright and he is the biggest recruit this area has ever seen. Word is we have an excellent shot at him.

Good news to hear....

I believe many have heard of 2013 Qb recruit, Tyrone Swoopes who is a Vince Young clone... and also so happens to be either cousin or nephew to former Texas Longhorn, Texas Tech women's basketball star, Cheryl Swoopes!

Haven't you heard? He wants to play in the premier conference in the land and will follow ATM to the SEC?

I'll be at his game tonight wearing Burnt Orange. Whitewright also has Geren Ballard who is a 6'7 TE who, from what I hear has been offered by TCU. It's their home opener and they are playing a 1A team, so this should be a massive beatdown.

he should have liked what he saw from the offense after GG was pulled. a guy like him could take the HarsinWhite offense to a new level. also he should feel good about his chances to play early.

Can anybody confirm he was at the game? I was trying to pick him out from all the other recruits that were there, but my eyes aren't that good even with binoculars.

He led an amazing comeback win on Friday night. His team was down 4 with about 2:30 left when he intercepted a pass on his own 15 or 20. He ran it back to about the 30. Then he led a 70 yd drive in under 1:30 (there was still 55 sec left) for the winning TD. He finished the game with 300+ yds rushing, which should put him at around 800 yds in 3 games with a below average OL, IMO.

The comparisons to Vince will undoubtedly come, which is unfair. Vince was a once in a lifetime type player. But Tyrone is not far off. He is big, fast, and can throw (minus the wierd release point of Vince).

According to a statement on Rivals in a quote from Orangebloods he spent a few days at UT this week.

I do not belong to Orangebloods so maybe someone who does can confirm.

Okay I know that I'm the "VYFan," but his highlights don't do it for me. First, he looks slow--is that just factually wrong? Does he have track speed I just am missing? Half of his highlights look like he's just outrunning very slow defenders, and this is at a low level of HS competition. One site had his highlights next to VY's and the speed comparison wasn't even close. (Neither was the passing ability.) So, then, he's not going to be Terrelle Pryor/VY/Cam Newton/RG3 at the college level for running. Then, his passing is not developed. He's likely to put on weight. He looks more like a potential star DE to me; make those amazing lateral moves and sack a QB, or drop back and cover.

Go ahead, set me straight; I hear he's a 5* prospect.

It's just very hard for a 1A or 2A player to do well at div 1 football. Then add to the fact that they are trying to be a player for a top program like Texas. You see Colt and Cosby make it but they are way far and beyond. I'm guessing he won't get an offer but instead be told by Mack he can come as a preferred walk on. If he's decent enough he won't do that and go to a lesser program or even div 2 or 3 on a scholly.

I call BS on that. Seems like Mack picks the athlete he likes and offers regardless of classification. Turned down C Michael and Richardson for smaller school Whaley. Turned down SL Carroll qb for Colt. Tell me there wasn't 5A running back heavily recruited that he turned down for Shead. Swoopes may be the top rated recruit in the state...

The weight thing also concerns me. When I first heard we were recruiting him, I thought TE. But he moves well. He also is a very good basketball player. And as far as throwing, talk to people who have seen him at camps. He learns very quickly and has a strong arm. IMO, his passing has Vince potential. I can absolutely guarantee he will score higher than 10 on the Wunderlick. Stanford is recruiting him, if that tells you anything.

"Yes and he offers 99% more to the kids at the bigger school than players from small towns with one red light." _________________________________________________ Though obviously exaggerated a bit (probably more like 20 to 1), that's a numbers thing not a selection priority. There may be 200 RBs/WRs in the state that are about 6-1- 195lb and run a 4.4 forty but 190 of them are in 4-5A due to shear population (number of competitive kids in he programs) and opportunity. A player from Texas is 99.9% more likely to get a Div1 FB scholarship than a player from small time Vermont and 99% less likely in hockey. A player is a player and Mack and most every other coach knows Swoopes is not some 5'8" 155lb 4.6 kid that tore it up in 1A. I'm certain that Stoops, Miles and Saban really hope Mack doesn't offer..

Not sure why you bring up Stoops and Saban. According to Yahoo sports they haven't shown interest yet. So far Baylor, Tech, A&M, and TCU has offered.
Arizona, Texas, Oregon, and Virginia has shown medium interest but no offer. It is crazy to think a player can look good against lesser talent and assume it plays no factor into the perception of some here. I've said from the start that I don't know if he's the real deal or not. But I'm not willing to say he is because he looks great against much smaller and slower competition. If he was doing what he's doing now against 5A Texas Football then I'd be a bigger believer. There is a huge difference in 5A to 2A and you're right, it has everything to do with the numbers. Because most of those kids playing 2A would either be on the bench or not on the roster playing 5A.

Arizona State Interest: Medium Contact: None

Oregon Interest: Medium Contact: None

Texas Medium None

Virginia Medium None

Quan and Colt both succeeded coming from small schools. You just need to be a dominant athlete.

There aren't many coming out of small schools because they transfer to bigger high schools for the competition.

Seth Doege at Tech never played HS above AA. He transferred from Crane to Frenship after his sophmore year but got hurt each of the next two years.

I think he is pretty good.

As for being good enough to play at collegiate level, clearly we wont know until we know. Not arguing only saying that the coaching staff gets an opportunity to see all of these kids in camps lining up against each other. Sometimes the 1A kid is good enough to still stand out even in that environment. I can only guess that Swoopes has been to some competitions where he competed against the big school kids and still shined. The numbers suggested a 30-1 chance that Herchell Walker would have attended on of the larger schools in Georgia. But because he went to a school with only about 100 kids RC Slocum didn't offer. [took liberties with names, numbers, possibly absolute truth]

1104 yds on 88 carries so far. That's good in any league. And if you've seen the line blocking for him, it's even more impressive.
