April 12, 2010Texas State to meet No. 4 Texas, No. 22 Southeastern Louisiana

SAN MARCOS - Bobcat baseball will tackle its biggest week yet, facing a pair of ranked teams in a four-game week on the road. Texas State will open with a Tuesday night game against No. 4 Texas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. against the Longhorns.

Following the decision, Texas State will travel to Hammond, Louisiana for a three-game Southland Conference series against No. 22 Southeastern Louisiana. The series is set to begin at 6 p.m. Friday night at Alumni Field.

Tuesday will mark the final scheduled meeting between Texas State and Texas this season. The Bobcats traveled north on March 9 and held a 3-1 advantage over the home team, before a late three-run inning spoiled the game. Texas leads the all-time series, 31-9.

Brian Borski will make his eighth start of the season Tuesday and third-straight against the Big 12. The junior is coming off a 4.1 inning stint at Baylor, where he surrendered four runs off nine hits in the 12-3 loss. Just one week prior, Borski tossed 6.1 innings against Texas A&M and allowed just two runs off eight hits with three strikeouts. Borski is 1-5 on the season with a 6.57 ERA in 37 innings of work.

Texas will counter with left-handed pitcher Sam Stafford who is 0-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings. Overall, the Longhorns pitching staff boasts a 2.51 ERA. The second-best mark in the country is led by closer Chance Ruffin's 0.51 ERA in 35.0 innings in relief. The junior has eight saves to date.

Offensively, the Bobcats are powered by a .315 collective batting average. Senior Laurn Randell catapulted to the top of the list with a .379 average after a 10-for-11 weekend against Central Arkansas. Ten hitters join Randell hitting for over .300, including junior Jason Martinson (.342) who is tied for a team-best 30 RBI.

The Longhorns are hitting .274 as a team, led by two .300 hitters in Cohl Walla and Russell Moldenhauer. The pair are hitting .323 and .311, respectively with a combined six homeruns and 27 RBI.

Tuesday's game can be heard on 89.9 KTSW FM. GameTracker will be available for live stats, as well as in-game updates via Texas State's official Twitter account: @TXSTATEBOBCATS.

Ruffin has been almost Streetesque in his closing this year. After the blowup the first weekend you can count on one or two fingers the number of bad outings he has had.
