TX vs. Iowa in KC?

It looks like the game against Iowa is on the 23rd and the championship game (perhaps against Pittsburgh) is on the 24th. Seeing two games on consecutive nights might be worth the drive to KC from Chicago. Am I reading the schedule correctly?

Should be a close game considering Iowa got **** on by UTSA last night.

I am in the process of moving from Austin to KC (already gave up my season tickets, and yes, I'll probably miss the best season since '03). Have my tickets for both nights of the CBE. Unfortunately, neither Iowa nor Pitt are as good as they typically have been. Or maybe Iowa IS about as good as they've been...

Horns will destroy Iowa. I watched Pitt play Binghamton yesterday, and they're clearly not what they were last year, but it won't be a cakewalk. They still have some athletes. I don't expect a close game in the end, but I expect them to challenge us early on.

I would check the Iowa board. I suspect there may be some fans there looking to bail out of seeing the impending beatdown.

Not without a hiccup though. Horns had a big lead through 10 minutes, having allowed only 11 points in the first ten minutes. Then Iowa managed 27 more to close the half. It started innocently enough with a couple of contested threes and a baseline drive after Balbay gambled on a steal, but soon devolved into a rain of 3's from guys who were wide open and one guy shooting nearly flat footed. Hard to pin the blame on any defender, as the guards were being exchanged freely during those ten minutes. Most distressing, most of the open looks came with a big wing on the floor and not with a three guard look. Even if the last three pointer was a lucky heave from half court at the buzzer, it was some bad stuff to watch. Meanwhile, UT was committing silly turnovers on offense.

Complete defensive shutdown after that stretch, and UT rolled. Iowa isn't that good, but it was a pretty good effort overall.

Team free throw shooting was much improved. Ward looked like he was doing a shot put on his first attempt, bricked it, and missed the next one, but settled down and looked comfortable at the line near the end of the game.

Hamilton hit his first three three point attempts in catch and shoot situations. If he isn't rushing it, he'll be deadly and will open up the inside. Just cut it out with the behind the back drop off passes on a break, OK?

bierce, I thought several of the open shots were caused by people not really understanding rotations yet. One play in particular stood out to me... James and Wangmene both followed the ball in an attempt to trap in the short corner, although they really weren't aggressive with it. But with both big men away from the basket, it was a pretty easy dump-off to a cutter.

That said, I think that the defense has been pretty aggressive and if you can reverse the ball, there are going to be wide-open threes.

I see no reason not to stick with my strategy of not paying too much attention to anything that happens until about February. It's not like this team will go undefeated -- in the micro sense, Barnes never really cares about his record.

There is just too much tinkering to do, too many combinations to watch and individuals to evaluate. And Jai Lucas has yet to play a minute.

If these guys play unselfish, team, ball they are going to be great. Barnes will earn every penny this year but have a great time juggling this beavy of talent.

This team is deep.

There were some mental lapses on defense - mostly the freshman missing switching/rotation assignments. Against a 3-pt oriented team like Iowa, that will cost you at times. But, a good learning experience for our young guys.

On offense, it seems like we are finding our identity. Let our athletic guards get out and run the fastbreak. But, if it ain't there settle into an inside-out offense. Dump it into Pittman for some easy baskets. When the defense collapses, kick it back to our 3 point shooter (Hamilton, Brown, Bradley, even James).

^^Not sure which game you were watching. Pittman's biggest problem has always been passing out of the post and I did not see that improved at all. In fact, I think I only saw him pass out of the post once or twice. Once we start facing better teams, that will certainly be an issue. He must improve on that.

truly i've never seen a deeper bench with this much talent. WOW. i think that we have the ability to match up with anyone based on our personel. we can go big, small, play inside-out, or outside-in. damn this is going to be fun.

Mason is already starting to lose minutes to other guys. It's sad to see him on the offensive end of the court. He just stands in the corner and we play 4 on 5. One time Bradley even told him to move farther away from the action so his pass to Pittman would be easier.
