Anyone have any recommendations on how to get some UT tix to the game in NY? I will be there and would like to sit near the bench/UT section. Thanks in advance for the help.

Unless you want to pay big bucks on ebay, I say just get a cheaper ticket in a nearby lower section, most likely you can sneak into that area especially the 2nd half since it is a double header.

I'm not expecting anything special (unless maybe Hamilton goes off for 30 on 67% shooting).

I just hope we can keep containment in the paint and shoot better than 60% from the stripe. If we lose by 20 and still achieve those goals, I won't poop myself.

The game against Illinois will be a good test, but don't discount the Horns.

Our ranking isn't necessarily indicative of our actual ability. If last years team hadn't collapsed so dramatically and if we had made it to even the round of 32, I'd argue that this years team would be ranked in the top 15.

Building this team up to be an underdog is good...hopefully they play with a chip on their shoulder. I think the game will be closer than most think.

This year's team would be ranked in the top 15 based on what? Two good looking freshmen, two sophmores who can't or just won't play defense, only two players over 6'7", a point guard who can't shoot, and another point guard who can't stop anybody from going right at him and shooting over him?

Let's watch the team against some high quality competition before we make any attempt to project how good it is (or even how good it might be perceived by others).

I don't think Texas is without a chance against Illinois, but I am very curious how it will handle an opposing front line that big.

Kentucky had 5 first rounders, including the top pick in the draft and two other lottery picks (all of whom start at least the majority of the games with 25+ minutes a game as rookies in the NBA), 80 minutes a game from guys 6'9" or bigger, and where was it said Wall and Bledsoe couldn't play defense?

I don't disagree that Texas might have been ranked as high as 15th had it managed, say, an 11-5 conference record and a win in the NCAA tournament. I'm just saying until we see the team against quality competition, there's no real justification for placing it that high.

Texas may wind up being a very good team. I've seen some things in the first two games that give me a little more hope than I had over the summer. I'm still dubious, and no so much because of how poorly the team played at the end of last year than because I see shortcomings on most of the players on this year's team. I see strengths, but I don't see how anyone can really project anything until the team has played a few games against good competition.

"I heard this before the Stanford game a few years ago when the Lopez twins were there. How did that turn out again?"

HAH! You mean the game when DJ Augustin went 23-7-5 and dished to whoever he wanted? Who is going to take on that role against Illinois this week?

And even that team had Pittman to hold ground in the middle. Despite his shortcomings, would you rather have a 300-pound immovable object to hold off the Lopez twins, or Matt Hill?

Yeah Pittman literally play above his head in that one and as imposing as the Lopez boys were, Illinois' post players are more athletic and big.

Box Score:
DJ 23-7-5 Hamilton
James 18-4-1 Johnson
AJ 12-4-1 J'Covan? Cory?
Mason 7-8-6 Tristan
Dexter 4-6 anyone

Lopez 26-10 If Pittman bodied him, then he did a poor job
Oh and Dex played 10 minutes...Lopez 33. Damn! did he body him from the bench?

not saying we will win, Im just saying that Hamilton can easily put up DJ's numbers and nobody else really kicked ***. The best thing was we only had 6 turnovers the whole game.
7-22 from 3
49.2% from field
61.1% from FT line

you can beat a team of bigs

I do remember Pittman shutting down Brook Lopez down the stretch of that 2008 South Regional semi-final game.

Texas is very capable of winning this game, but anyone that thinks the lack of size and quality depth in the post isn't going to be a big liability this year is fooling themselves. See Baylor's and K-State's front courts today?

Pittman did stop Brook by figuring out his tendencies and getting into the right position to make him go to his weaker set of moves. Brook destroyed everyone else. But the Lopez's also had some trouble with Damion James' quickness.

BigTex, I would agree with you if Barnes hadn't changed his offensive philosophy this year. I think we're gonna be much better on offense with a lot less dependence on the PG and individual moves off the dribble.

It moved to -2 almost immediately and is currently -3. Illinois should cruise here. I am taking the -3.

The Pitt/Maryland game opened at -4 and quickly jumped to -6 and is currently -6.5. Pitt should cruise there even more easily than Illinois.

just buy 10 dollar tickets at the box office, but make sure you buy them before tipoff. They close the box office 1 hour after first game starts.

you can usually sit pretty close because there will be tons of empty seats.
