NOTES

  • It's the 60th all-time meeting between Texas and Oklahoma on Saturday when the two rivals meet at the Frank Erwin Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised by LHN.
  • Welcome Home: Longhorn Legend Ariel Atkins, who won the 2019 WNBA Championship with the Washington Mystics, will be in attendance at Saturday's game. Atkins will sign autographs in the concourse behind section 44 from 6-7 p.m. Atkins played in 121 career games with 100 starts at Texas. She scored 1,497 career points and scored in double figures 81 times. She was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American and a three-time All-Big 12 Conference selection.
  • The Series: Texas and Oklahoma meet for the 60th time in the history of the two programs. The Longhorns lead the all-time series 34-25. Texas has won five consecutive meetings between the two teams and a win on Saturday would give the Longhorns a series-best six-game winning streak against the Sooners. Texas is 18-9 against Oklahoma when the game is played in Austin.
  • Among The Best: Three Texas players have been listed among the top-10 players in the nation at their respective positions. Senior point guard Sug Sutton is on the top-10 list for the Nancy Lieberman Award, senior forward Joyner Holmes is on the top-10 list for the Katrina McClain Award and sophomore Charli Collier is on the top-10 list for the Lisa Leslie Award.
  • On The Boards: Success on the boards has been a staple of Texas teams for many years. In fact the Longhorns have tied or won the rebounding battle in 138 of their last 166 games overall, including 20 of 27 games this season. The Longhorns hold a +8.9 rebounding margin, which ranks 15th nationally. Texas has reached 50 or more rebounds in seven games this year.
  • Sophomore Success: Sophomore center Charli Collier is one of six players in the Big 12 Conference to average a double-double with a team-high 13.3 points per game and a squad-best 10.5 rebounds per game. She has 14 double-doubles and ranks 21st nationally in rebounds per game. Collier, her team's starting center, leads her team averaging 30.5 minutes per game.

Face-guard Roberts, contain Williams inside, & carryover the energy from Wednesday and we should be fine. OU has lost 4 in a row, including to KU, & hasn’t looked strong lately. Looked like we turned a corner last time out..Although, nothing is a given with this team. Fingers crossed.

I'd like to see a "stay hungry" performance from UT. Hopefully, they won't let up since they are facing an OU with a five game losing streak. Let's have a crushing, dominate win!

I, too, am interested to see if we pick up where we left off from the second half of the TCU game. We'd be an awfully good team if we played like that consistently.

We are RPI 44 right now, OU 66. We’ve gotta take care of these last two “should wins” to up our projection. I don’t want an 8/9 seed in the tourney, facing a #1, a 7 seed is much better. Wins over OU & OKST and a first round win in the B12 could get us there.

I’m on the edge of my seat to see how KA and company follow up TCU

Celeste is smooth. When she’s on, she’s the best freshman in the B12. Lee will win the award, but It’s a lot easier to post big numbers when you’re 6’5.

Co-winners would be cool

This is the best home crowd of the season and I’m not talking numbers
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. The crowd really loved it when Karen walked across the court to give the ref the business. That’s the loudest the crowd has been since the end of the Stanford game.

That got us out of a short slump too. She went out there knowing she was gonna get the tech, I liked it!!

And I liked it when she did that, too.

Good thing Celeste is shooting the ball so we’ll because Sug is struggling with her shot right now. Hopefully she can get something going in the next couple of games.

sug has had some really tough games the second half of conference; we need her to show up Thursday if we are gonna have a chance

It's kind of surprising we can win when Sug and Lashann are both off their game. Celeste is something else. Joyner had a really good game, too.

She actually said in the postgame that she didn't intend to get the technical, that she was only trying to get them to review the play on video.

Which they should have done based on how Jada was hit. The crowd went nuts and gave Karen a standing ovation when she kept pressing for it. That ref made three bad calls in a row and the crowd wasn’t having it. Truly a great moment to see the crowd so into the game.

It'll probably take more than that to push us up to a 7 seed. We were flirting with the bubble before the TCU win. We still have losses to Hawaii, Kansas, Kansas State and South Florida.

We do have some bad losses, but there’s so much parity this year that most teams do. I mean, as bad as those losses are we are still RPI 44. But you’re probably right. It would take a win against Baylor Thursday, or maybe against TCU in the tourney. If the high seeds hold we would be set to play them in the semis. They’re the only two high enough RPI teams to make a difference for us.

A win against Baylor would be freaking awesome, but either way I have a feeling we are gonna play much better than last time. We CAN do it, but odds aren’t in our favor. But dang it would be nice for our seniors

The refs didn't call a good game at all. I'm not saying they were one-sided, but they just didn't have control over the game. There was a LOT of holding going on.

Credit to Oklahoma. They looked much improved since we met them last.

So thrilled to see Celeste playing lights out. And Holmes staying positive the entire game.

Gotta keep our focus until the final seconds. This should have been a 15 pt plus win.

Regardless very happy for the win. On to Waco.
