The NCAA is wacky
How does scheduling 2 different regionals with 8 schools from all over the country cut down on travel costs to a school
Having , for instance Temple and Penn st travel to Tuscon isn't very efficient
UCLA to Tampa?
I can see sending teams as close to their homes as possible as a way to save many teams money. I realize it is not always possible
But I don't see how having 2 regionals in the same city saves a school money.Explain how that would help
They started this when they decided to try to send the top seeds to sites closer to home. Before, the 8 teams at a regional were always in the same bracket. This system allows both Kansas and Texas to play games in the city closest to them-- couldn't have happened the old way.
max
It could if they put had a regional in say Omaha or St Louis.
I understand the pod system.
and most of the time i wouldn't care.
I just know getting tickets, off the street, will likely cost more so this is purely a selfish whine on my part.
But we're in different brackets. Without this flexibility, it would be impossible to place anybody but a top seed close to home without seriously manipulating seeds. We're in the west bracket, so we'd be playing in Tucson or Denver under the old system. So would Duke, and they're a #1 seed.
Is this related to tv at all? The theory is tenuous, but I can see how having only one court to play on ensures that at least those sites only have one game going on at a time. The fans in the stands understand that you need some down time between games. CBS, etc. can utilize that down-time to keep switching between games, which is part of what makes March Madness pretty cool.
misirlou
now THAT makes sense.
Yes TV would drive that
ok I will quit complaining even though i know the Jhawkers will be there is flocks and drive up the scalpers prices.
As of last night there were tickets still available for the regional....go to the BOK center website.....so you could get face value tickets.....now will you quit whining
