TWC vs. ATT

I'm sure this has been discussed many times before, but I am disgusted with Time Warner and their "service". Two weeks ago I had to exchange my DVR, which meant I lost everything I had saved on it. Now my new one is broken - it won't hold a boot - and the first time they can get someone out is Friday. I think that is ridiculous, and I suppose my only other option is to exchange it again and lose all my recordings again. Grrrrrr...

Is service with AT&T any better? We have everything bundled - high speed internet, phone and cable.

I heard that U-Verse kicks *** with content and channels. Also I heard that the DVR is really sweet and you can record up to three programs at once (not verified but it's what I heard). I have Comshit cable and as soon as u-verse is avaliable in my area I'm kick Comsht to the curb. Now I have to admit my cable internet rocks (22+ mps download and 3+ mps upload). I am not giving that up.

Love Uverse.

You can record 4 at a time. However, the DVR function is only possible on one tv. Meaning, you can only pause live TV one in your house.

You can watch a recorded show on any TV in the house though.

I vaguely remember on one thread that Uverse was having a lot of technical problems. Is that still true? Do they have the same channels that TWC has? I do like the idea of being able to watch dvr programs on any tv. That is great.

I believe in the last couple weeks there has been a software update where you can pause on more than the DVR box. Also you could have issues if they set you up but your too far from the box. The installers should have to get certain speeds when they're setting you up to go ahead with the install. I don't have it but my inlaws do and it does in fact kick ***. I would go to Uverse in a heartbeat but we are one of those people that are too far from the box to get good service.

I checked into U-Verse last summer. Almost switched. You could only have one DVR with 4 streams (4 stnd def or 2 HD). Also, you must have a cable box with each TV at $7/ea per month. My house has lots of TV's so this made it more expensive than TWC (w/ 3 cable boxes and other TV's just use coax).

One other annoying thing was that Fox Soccer Channel was on the 300-tier ($20 more a month) with a bunch of movie channels I didn't care about. It's on the standard digital tier with Time Warner. Maybe not a big deal to most people on here, but I watch the EPL.

I had Uverse about 18 mos. ago - when they di the initial roll out in Au.
yeah, great features, but when it comes to service.... (I dumped them)

Now, I'm assuming the great lumbering Corp., AKA At&T has not changed their philosphy on service... and maybe, as of now, they have worked some bugs out of their customer boxes

So -

In 18 mos., I had 3 boxes go bad. Well, in all instances, I went thru the phone hoops with them, each time spent literally 1 1/2 hrs. on the phone... only to culminate in them sending a truck, just to exchange the boxes.
- 1 DVR (I lost my recordings)
- 2 set top boxes

* Total time to resolve was anywhere from 1 to 2 days... the field tech never called to confirm his ticket / arrival, etc.

In all fairness, I punted for $ reasons, not particularly for the tech services.

My biggest complaint is their tech support is in India and I am not a fan of someone giving tech support in a language that is not their native tongue.

I had numerous problems with Time Warner and I finally switched. I have only had one or two minor problems with Uverse and those were both in the first day after install. Everything has been great since.

att blows twc away. as for the service problems, i've heard this from other ppl and ones above, but i've never had problems getting thru to anyone and getting answers when i needed them. when i first got installed, i had some problems b/c of wiring, but that got fixed after a couple weeks. i've had one problem with my net slowing down, box fried. got it fixed same day i called.

i had 3 dvr boxes with twc, at $8 a piece plus $4 for dvr service. i don't know who is getting charged $7 per extra box, but you get one and the others are $4 (at least on my bill). i can easily log in and add services and remove them as needed. no one tries to upsell me anything i don't need.

now you can record in any room which allows you to pause/rewind/fwd on each tv.

i cut my bill down $45 from twc and haven't looked back.

*if you have problems with att service, tell them you need to talk to tier 2. they should just move you right along (tier 2 are in US and they know what's up).

We've had really good results from ATT. My biggest complaint with service is that it takes them weeks to come out unless your cable is out and it takes about 3 hours of listening to options on the phone before it finally hooks you up with a human who is almost always VERY patient and helpful.

The DVR allows you to record and/or watch 4 shows simultaneously, but you can only pause live TV on one TV. This is a Very recent change. Like a week ago. It used to be that you could only schedule or delte recordings from the DVR TV, but that is no longer the case. You can do everything from any of your 4 TV's except pause live TV. Like I said, you can only pause on the DVR TV. Not really a huge issue for us, but if you tend to wander from TV to TV it could be an issue.

Like all of the providers, you pay for 4,000 channels and only watch about 5 or 6. I think I pay aroung $120/month for TV, Internet, Phone. I get all 400 HBO and Cinemax channels. No sports packages. I do get all the Fox Sports stuff.

Uverse is slowly rolling out an upgrade so all of the receivers to allow more control of the DVR. I've read that Austin has it and some people in Houston.

We keep Time Warner here in Temple for one main reason: they show the Texas Rangers' games that are not broadcast on Fox. Our TW picks up the feed from the channels in DFW that show the games, and it's free.

TW also has BevoD, and I like that.
