TW Cable question

I was wondering if you could buy one of the digital cable boxes that time warner uses, on ebay, then hook it up if you already have digital cable? Would that work? Anyone tried?

i don't see why not, so long as you made TW aware of your purchase. their boxes have serial numbers that have to be activated... i don't know if they'd charge you for it, since you would be owning rather than renting the box.

Digital cable boxes must be authorised to connect using serial numbers and decoders and whatnot.

You think TW would give up the revenue stream of charging you $7 month for the box and just let you register any old box?

Even if you can .. I just looked up my DVR box on ebay, and at the prices it's going for, you need to keep it about 2 years to break even. By that time, TW will probably change to a different box, and all of us renting boxes will be upgraded for "free", and you may have trouble getting a new box.

That sucks. Those cocksuckers. I don't see why u can't buy one, guess they love just screwing u and getting that extra monthly charge. I think its like 7-10 bucks a month for an additonal box, fuckin ridicoulous.
