Pros/Cons, thoughts, comments, criticisms, opinions? I don't really know the differences between the three, so would be good to get a brief overview of each as well.

Looking at probably buying a 40 incher and from reading early threads, looks like 720 is more than enough, is 120 refresh enough/too much?

There's no HD broadcast where i live (and don't have a blue ray right now) so not too much high tech stuff needed probably.

Thanks.

The best value at that size is definitely a plasma. Panasonic makes the Viera line that gets excellent reviews and that size is available for well under $1000. You may want to check the current issue of Consumer Reports for a complete look at your choices.

Plasma - better blacks, more accurate colors, overall better picture in general than LCD and LED, heavier, use more power, 50$ more a year in energy than an LCD probably, cheaper, better off angle performance, better motion performance than LCD/LED, perform best in a more dimly lit room

LCD - poor blacks, flashier than plasma with the bright colors less accurate colors as a result, more energy efficient than plasma, lighter than plasma,

LED - better blacks than LCD, more or less the same otherwise, not as good as plasma if in the same general price range, more energy efficient than LCD, expensive

At some point all LCD's will be LED's, they are the same other than the backlighting, LED's have a panel of LED lights int eh back that allow for better blacks than regular LCD's

Given how much less expensive plasma is for the same size set thats what i went with, but im in the 58inch range, in teh 42-46 inch range the cost difference may not be so much.
