TV Buying Help---Update

I have decided to buy a Panasonic G10 Plasma TV (P46G10). The prices on the internet vary from $900 to around $1500. I have never ordered anything in this price range off of the interweb, and I am a little nervous. Anybody have any recommendations?

Update--Decided to order online and found TV for around $1100. Before I ordered I wanted to get exact measurements because I was going to have to add a few inches to my TV cabinet. Found out that Sears carried the G10 but wanted $1500 for it. I drove to Sears to get measurements--later to order online.

Got to Sears, but they were sold out of 46-inch G10. However, Sears had the 50--inch G10 on sale for $1340 plus an additional 10% off for using Sears card. Long story short, bought the 50-inch at Sears for $1200. Haven't set it up yet as cabinet mods are incomplete.

Ordered a Panasonic Plasma from B&H last fall with no issues whatsoever. The freight company said they deliver a lot of HDTVs and were more than accommodating to make sure there was no damage. The driver stuck around while I unpacked it and plugged it in to be sure it wasn't DOA. I wouldn't hesitate to order from a known reputable source like B&H again.

Best Buy has/has had twice in the last two weeks the 54s14 for $1499/ It is the best tv for the $ out there. 54"; 1080p; the new 24fps/600mhz. I think the G series adds a vga port to use as a monitor and 1 other thing (can't remember). The G series has IMO, the uglier bezel that fades to gret along the bottom whereas the S series is classic piano black. Also, 1 sheet glass. You will not be dissapointed. This is the newest technology in a 54" panny plasma for $1500 - unreal.

Any word on the backlit LED TVs? I am getting into the larger flat screen market for the first time and I'm trying to decide between LCD or LED.

Any help?

I'd also like to hear comments on backlit LED....and on purchasing an HDTV in general I'm looking to buy my first HDTV in time for football season, but need some advice.

I am pretty open to everything, but I do believe I'll end up getting an LCD. From what I understand one of the biggest advantages of plasma over LCD is wider viewing angle, but with where the TV will be, we will be watching it pretty close to straight on. I don’t want/need something that has the latest/greatest state-of-the art technology, but I also don’t want something that will be completely obsolete in 2-3 years. We’re not huge movie buffs, although I know we’ll watch our share of movies on it, but what I care most about is sporting events (of course). I’ve done minimal research so far, but I’m thinking I’ll go for something with 240mhz. I’ve also read a little about LED backlighting, but from what I recall on the price for those, I think it may be out of my range ($1,500-$1,750). I’d like to find something in the 52”-55”range, but if there are other qualities that are ‘must haves’ but that drive up the price, I may have to drop into the 46/47” range.

I've got the HDTV itch - probably buy around Dec.

The prices from ABTelectronics (Chicago) or B&H (NY) seem awful nice, and I can't see the inconvenience of taking delivery from a common carrier outweighing a local buy.
Thinking about a 46", but I could jump to 52", for the same money, if I blow off a local purchase and go with above stores.

... Thx to HF posters for this.
