Turin, Italy

Am starting a new job soon and will be travelling internationally quite often. In any case, my first trip appears to be to Turin, Italy. I probably will only be there about 4 or 5 days. Anyone (TXHookem?) with pointers on what to see or do in a short time frame?

Thanks,

I've never been to Turin, but my favorite soccer team is Juventus. They play at the Olympic Stadium. Check them out if they are playing when you are in town.

IcyHotStunta,
I checked the schedule and they are in town during November on two different Sundays. I don't know my dates yet, but I'll add it to my itinerary if it works out.

Its a pretty typical European mid size city. It's got the olympic village which is ok. Mountains are kinda not near the city but that is where lots of the winter olympic events were held. Its got the shroud of Turin and some good religious historical stuff to see. i think the car company Fiat is based there. my wife and I stopped by there last fall and caught a Pearl Jam/My Morning Jacket concert which was held at the olympic hockey arena. Lots of nice architecture if you aren't used to European cities, but if you are, then it is pretty typical.

UnBiased,
Thanks for the reply. I will try and check out the Olympic Village. As an urban planner, I do like those sorts of things. Definitely interested in trying to see the Shroud. Yeah, I was an exchange student in Norway and I have traveled quite a bit, but I still love seeing new cities and great architecture.

Would love any other tips, if any one thinks of them.

Northern Italy is beautiful so there are tons of places to go that are not far by train, like Cinque Terre or the lakes (como and another one) but they are pretty exclusive i think.

Admittedly, I've never been to Torino... it's not the kind of city Italians think of visiting but that's not to say that it's not filled with stuff to see. Unfortunately, I can't really offer anything but to echo catching a Juventus game.

I will be going on the company dime so to speak, so some of my trip might be on me. Ritzy resorts will be out. Clearly the Juventus game would be on me. I'll post any highlights that I think Hornfans might be interested in.
