Turgeon to Maryland??

Well Eric, the reason I started this thread was because there is a distinct difference between a story of "who's next" on the list vs. what appears to be a done deal (Turgeon is doing nothing to dispells the rumors).

Plus, I didn't see that other thread.

Ehh, not that big of a deal in my opinion. He's a good coach but I hardly think he's irreplaceable.

For what it's worth, the folks on TexAgs think he's gone.

Interesting. Four years later Billy Gillispie is coaching at Texas Tech and A&M is looking for a new basketball coach.

Update: According to ESPN, he has an offer and is leaning toward accepting. Seems he was Maryland's fifth choice based on the article.

Interesting that Butler's Brad Stevens supposedly turned Maryland down. He must be waiting for Rick Barnes to leave Texas.

All my kids have gone to or are still at Grace Prep. Wife teaches there as well. Branch seems like a good kid. He has a big decision to make now and we should have an extra scholly if he is looking.

Being a stepping stone isn't so bad at the moment. We've sent our last two coaches to UK and Maryland, so it's not like they are leaving us for ISU or some other ****** programs.

Now, eventually that will need to change but our success in basketball is relatively new.

I would agree completely with that. You've now had 2 HC's in a row leave the program in better shape than when they took it over. That is a huge step into become a "destination" program.

aggy is fast working its way up the ladder as a basketball job, now it s a place to make a name instead of the graveyard of careers it used to be. The last two coaches improved them dramatically and a good hire now will keep them as a yearly threat for NCAA tourny and eventually one of those years they will make another run like 2007.

I never liked Turge so I'm not crying over this. It is key however that we get somebody that can sustain the success we've had (and hopefully has some offensive plays).

I never really thought he knew any offensive plays. Especially as he went to the NCAA's every year.

Buzz just cost too much. His salary is that of a top ten coach and he's not proven to be that just yet.

Thoughts of I. Thomas come to mind. Will he recruit within the rules and can he motivate the kids. I'm not real excited about this.
