It means he studied music and opera as an undergrad. Apparently he was a music major. So, as part of his operatic training, he had to take diction classes that taught him how to sing in various languages. Thats what it means. How many people do you know who can hit game winning 61 yard FGs and also sing opera? Thats the point.
