Trump and Bannon divorce final

You could say that divorce papers were filed when Trump and Bannon supported different candidates in the Alabama Senate race.

Today the divorce was finalized. A new book being published quotes Bannon as stating the infamous Trump Tower meeting between the Russians and Trump Jr + Others was "treasonous" and "unpatriotic" and that there is no way that Trump wasn't aware of the meeting. I expected the usual denials from Bannon but was dismayed that Breitbart was PUSHING the book, rather than denying or relaying his side of the story. I would have believe Bannon's denials since the author of the book has a sensationalist journalism history.

Now, Trump has issued the statement with the following so I'm thinking Bannon must be standing behind the quotes. Trump even claims Bannon "partnered" on the book.

In a blistering statement issued by the White House, Trump said Bannon has "lost his mind."

"When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind," Trump said in a statement. "Steve was rarely in a one-on-one meeting with me and only pretends to have had influence to fool a few people with no access and no clue, whom he helped write phony books."

"Steve pretends to be at war with the media, which he calls the opposition party, yet he spent his time at the White House leaking false information to the media to make himself seem far more important than he was," the president continued.

So, they've now split formally. The real question is which side will Trump's sycophants on 4Chan and r/the_donald take? They love Breitbart and Trump.

BTW- I think we now know why Trump put out the "my button is bigger than yours" tweet. It was clearly an attempt to steal the headlines from Bannon.

You've got two nutty guys going to war. Bannon's the bigger nut with delusions of grandeur, but Trump has more to lose. Hard to know who's right.

I'm trying to figure out Bannon's angle on this. Clearly he's miffed that Trump so easily tossed him to the curb but Bannon appears to be going nuclear. I wonder which of Trump's response lines bother Bannon the most? That Bannon had nothing to do with Trump's election win?

If the comments on Breitbart are a sign, Trump's supporters have chosen him over Bannon.

The only possible rationale I can think of is that Bannon thought party activists would actually choose him over Trump. That's the only thing that would make sense. That's serious delusions of grandeur.

Man, what a couple of egomaniacs. Trump just cannot stop with the self-inflicted bleeding. Its sad because he has just had a major legislative accomplishment and the media is focused on this nonsense.

Bannon played nice on his Sirius radio show last night. Looking closely at the excerpted quotes (which Bannon has still not denied) he didn't go too hard on Trump other than saying there was "zero chance" that DJT was unaware of the Russia meeting in Trump tower. Most of his vitriol was directed at the Trump family cabal which we knew he didn't get along with. If Trump has loyalty to anyone, it's his family first and only which is admirable on one level yet a bit naive given the roles he's handed them.

Bannon has yet to meet with Congressional investigators. Assuming he agrees to meet with them he's scheduled to talk to them in February. With his claims of "treasonous" and the more damaging "money laundering" do you think those Congressman on the left may want to know more? Additionally, I'm sure Mueller's investigation will want to talk to Bannon about the "money laundering" claim, especially in light of Manafort's same charge.

Trump's legal team is trying to halt the publishing of the book. Fortunately for the publisher, the author has "dozens of hours" of recorded conversations used for the book, including Bannon and Deputy Chief of Staff Katie Walsh.

This begs the question...how on earth did the Trump admin let this guy to bounce around the West Wing for an approved book and lose control over whether it was a positive portrayal or not?

The other fallout for Bannon in this fracas...his primary financial backing (Mercer's) appears to be crumbling.

Bannon has in recent weeks also alienated his main financial backer, Rebekah Mercer, after he told several other major conservative donors that he would be able to count on the Mercers’ financial support should he run for president, a person familiar with the conversations said. The person said Mercer now does not plan to financially support Bannon’s future projects — and that she was frustrated by his moves in Alabama and some of his comments in the news media that seemed to stoke unnecessary fights.

A person close to Bannon said he was not running for president. Bannon and Mercer declined to comment through representatives.

“The core constituency for Breitbart is what you would call the Trump Deplorables. That’s the audience. And if they’re asked to choose between Steve and Trump, they’re going to choose Trump. That’s clear,” said a person familiar with the company’s ownership.

Bannon was a shooting star. He had his time in the limelight. Over the next couple of months we'll be measuring how big a crater his crash will cause.

Yawn.

Perhaps I really am becoming one of those muppet curmudgeons ... but what's interesting to me gets virtually ZERO press coverage ... and virtually all that is being covered in the press is literally of zero interest to me.

ShAArk92 doesn't care about this drama and part of me understands, it's really beneath the WH. Still, it's a self-inflicted distr"action within this administration. Sarah (Huckabee) Sanders claim today "I’m not aware that they were ever particularly close" when asked about DJT and Bannon's relationship post-departure was absurd.

Let's be clear, we have an active Russia interference investigation by a Special Counsel. A former inner circle adviser has just been quoted as claiming actions by the POTUS inner circle were "treasonous", "unpatriotic" and tied them to accusations of "money-laundering". This is front-page news in any administration and endemic to how this administration operated throughout the campaign and in the early months before General Kelly became Chief of Staff.

Bannon is now out at Breitbart. Here is an artist's rendering for Bannon on the corner of 5th and Pennsylvania:
