Got an anniversary dinner coming up and thought I'd make reservations at Truluck's. Heard good things from Hornfans and other folks so I thought we'd give them a shot. The next question is: which one?
seared ahi tuna is incredible. filet with crab meat, shrimp and some sauce they put on it is the best in town imo. pretty good creme brule as well. only been to the one downtown and the atmosphere is great.
We went to the downtown location Saturday night. We weren't blown away. My wife had a mushroom stuffed with seafood for an appetizer and liked it just OK. She ordered scallops for her entree and deemed them "good". I had the bone-in peppercorn ribeye, and wasn't thrilled. It just wasn't a great cut of meat. They cooked it pretty well, though.
Once again, we got stuck at the table nearest the door, so that didn't help. Maybe I need to wear shoes?
We like both Truluck's downtown and Eddie V's. Much easier to read the menu at Truluck's. Way too dark in Eddie's the night we were there, but the food was outstanding.
For seafood, Eddie V's is far superior to Truluck's, imho. I've never had anything at Truluck's that was memorable in the least (unless you count the greasy, soggy calamari that was 75% batter and 25% calamari
).
About twice a year, I'll venture into Truluck's to see if I'll change my opinion. As a dinner option, it's good, not great--and especially not for the prices. That being said, I do think they have a good price/value option for lunch.
