Trudy's South?

I heard there is a new Trudy's restaurant location on Little Texas Drive (near Stassney/IH-35). Anybody been there? Did the one in Brodie Oaks close when this one opened?

I think I heard they were closing the one on S. Lamar and moving to Stassney/1-35, which is much closer to me

Exactly, S.Lamar closed due to not owning the property. They said something along the lines that rent was $1,000 a day so they wanted to own their property.

I haven't been to the new location yet (the old Smokey Bones in front of Metropolitan Theater), but heard the same thing about lease vs. own.

They could probably do enough business to keep both open, but I'm glad to have another option near the office.

I was surprised they closed Brodie Oaks - it was always so crowded with the after work crowd that I thought they'd have both locations.

$1,000 a day?!? Seriously? I don't blame them at all for moving if this is the case. That is amazing that the rents in Austin are that high.

Uhh...yes. I was told by one of their managers so I might be wrong but that is what he told me last time I went in there.

yep, I asked too, when i went and saw the Moving sign.
The lady said they were paying 30K a month, and on top of that they also give a percentage of their profits.
They bought the new location, and although I haven't been there, she said they were exicted to open it as it was going to be much bigger, and a larger bar area than the South lamar/360/71 location.

The new place sucks, both its location and the restaurant itself. It doesn't seem terribly larger than the old location. That place in Brodie Oaks was consistently packed, so it must have been a hellaciously bad rent deal for them to move.

That's a lot closer to my office. I never had time to make it to the old Trudy's South, but this one I'll visit regularly.

Thanks for the heads-up.
