Trudy's Mexican Martini

I don't know the recipe, but it's only a margarita on the rocks served with a martini glass and shaker.

On that note, I'd like to say that I dream of someday completing the Trudy's Trot. For those not in the know, there are three Trudy's locations in town plus the Trudy's-owned South Congress Cafe (which, as I understand it, serves Mexican martinis). Each location will only permit the consumption of two drinks if one of them is a Mex martini. The Trudy's Trot consists of consuming two Mexican martinis at each of the four locations within one day. It sounds like a fair amount, but I think it's easily attainable if one paces himself and has a designated driver.

Two other drinking goals I'd eventually like to accomplish:
1) 200 ounces of beer in a day
2) taking advantage of Trudy's Monday all-day happy hour at 7:00 over breakfast

That's correct, there is not a single lick of difference between a mexican martini and a margarita except for presentation.

so why do they limit you to two and why do they taste a lot better and stronger than a normal rocks rita?

Limit of Two = marketing, kiss-up to TABC and perhaps turning tables a bit quicker

As for it tasting stronger, that's completely psychological. The rita and mexmart recipe is exactly the same - they pour the house rocks and mexmarts from the same containers.

Don't the mexican martinis have olive/olive juice in them? That's at least a little different than a regular margarita.

There's no olive juice in it. There are olives in the little martini glass they give you, but none in the shaker.

For the topshelf ritas and mexmarts it's tequila, cointreau or grandma, lime juice, sweet and sour and a splash of orange juice. I'm not sure what the exact mix is for the house ones, but I can't see any reason anyone would want to copy those.

I used to work there. It's exactly the same. They make the house mix in gigantic batches and keep them behind the bar in gallon jugs which they use for both ritas and mexmarts.

At the Burnet Rd location we used to always have two downstairs and them go have two upstairs. No need to go to two different locations.

when i order them, with patron and cointreau, i've never seen the sprite come out. i did forget the OJ in my post though. the olive juice/flavor really jsut comes from the olives in there I guess, since i've never seen them pour the juice in.

Also, not sure if the lime juice measurement is accurate, since they have a big jug of goodflow co. lime juice that they pour from. there's no squeezing of anything.

Needs a shot of olive juice as well for the "martini" part. At least that's how I've always made them.

I dig 'em dirty, with a little bit of olive juice poured in there. I remember when I lived within walking distance from that place, whenever we would return home from a night of 2 martini's we always wound up bringing back a road sign or two.

I think the purple margaritas from baby A's are a lot stronger, my friend and I did the trudy's challenge, and then went home and continued drinking. We also made up the austin challenge, which was the 3 places we knew of that had limit 2 drinks, 2 mexican martinis, 2 purple margaritas and 2 painkillers(cheddars). We then went to Austin park and pizza, and then perfect 10, it was a good day.

I stop by Trudys about twice a week on my way home from work. The bartenders HATE making the mex-marts and if you watch them, put little effort into making them the same way every time.

I asked the bartender a few nights ago, "Do you guys just hate making those?" She looked at me and said emphatically, "YES! And if I ever came in here as a customer, I would never order one. Not worth it."

I've always found it odd that they are so strict about limiting people to two of them, but will serve you margaritas all night long. The Mex-Marts only have about 1.5x the tequila.

By the way, the margaritas/mex-marts are much better if you order them with no sweet/sour and 100% lime juice. Try it.

they use very little sweet and sour. also, i seem to get consistently made ones, but i order top shelf, so maybe they put a little effort into those.

the mexmarts are way overrated... total style over substance.. I've had their max of 2 and wasn't even buzzed...

regarding 200 oz of beer... I've done that in an hour... blacked out shortly thereafter and puked all over myself and anything within 10 feet of me.... also had alcohol poisoning for about 4 days.... terrible idea...
all the same... 200 oz of beer is fairly normal and attainable for just about any 2pm Saturday games... should be able to get at least 10 beers down easy before the game... and definitely another 7-10 after... I think a more difficult goal would be to hit like 350oz...
