Truck Wreck From Saturday

So me and the family drove over the mountain into TN to go see Harry Potter at the movies etc. If you have never driven in the area it's fairly mountainous and the curves are windy. (Though in this section the road is fair bit straighter and no steep embankments fortunately.) Amazingly we walked away from this, my wife, who was in the passenger seat, got the brunt of it with some bruises and lots of cuts and might have a slight rotator cuff tear. My 9-yo daughter who was on the passenger side and in the rear seat only had a couple of scratches and bruised elbow. The lady and her kids were unharmed as well and her minivan only had some frontal damage to the passenger side.

As we rounded this particular curve a lady in an oncoming minivan decided to turn around while driving to deal with a screaming child and she basically drove straight through the curve and into our lane. I swerved to the left to avoid hitting her head on but she hit us on the passenger side. I believe we flipped over 2 times, but it was hard to keep count.

The rear axle is sitting behind the truck, the drive axle was about 30ft away from the truck and one of the rear tires ended up in a creek along side the road.

Glad you are okay and the family as well. Here's to no injury that pops up later down the road and I hope that your insurance company is helpful and supportive. Many turn into dicks when the money needs to go the other way back to you.

i hope i never experience anything as horrifying looking as that. I am glad everyone is in relatively good shape.

I assume all passengers were wearing seatbelts?

Yep we were all wearing seatbelts, if the kids hadn't been they would have surely been thrown outside the vehicle. There were sunglasses, daughter's teddy bear, anything not tied down inside the truck was strewn all along the road outside the truck. Fortunately the lady admitted fault and was honest about what happened because I was going to avoid hitting her head on at all costs which forced me into her lane to avoid her.

Just sad cause that was an awesome truck..80+K miles with not a single problem...

Safety Belts saver you livers from being changed drastically. NEVER EVER drive without wearing your safety belt. If you have teens show them this post!

Considering you flipped twice, the cab of the truck barely even buckled. I can not even tell if it is a Ford or Chevy or what. But whoever it is, they should do a commecial using it as a safety example.

Man oh man.....so very glad you and your family were able to walk away from that one basically unharmed. It looks real nasty.

wow, i thought that was an f250 or f350..

this truck lost control on 35 and smashed into a deep ditch before flipping about three times. the passenger side never hit the ground. the otherside was messed up pretty good but the frame stood strong..

the truck is facing south on the other side of the access road northbound 35.

Wow. Glad to hear everyone is OK.
I ALWAYS make anyone in my vehicle wear seatbelts, front seat and back. People who are ejected from a vehicle rarely survive.

I drove up on a head on with 5 fatalities one winter night north of Elgin on Hwy 95 . Not a lot of fun.

Glad you and your family survived.
