trouble with wireless usb adapter/router

So I recently had to move my desktop to another room where there wasnt a cable drop; so i had to leave my linksys router/cable modem where they were and needed a usb wireless adapter for my desktop in the new room. I had it set up and was able to get online but it kicks our mac laptop offline if we're surfing the interwebs at the same time. Linksys tech support wasnt any help either; seems that my router is having trouble with 2 wireless devices being online at the same time.

More than likley you and the mac are fighting for bandwith on the same wireless channel. Make sure your router wireless devices are configured for "Auto Select" on the wirless channel selection.
Also the make and model of your router may be an issue. Make sure your router has the latest firmware. It may be an issue that was resolved previously by the manufactor. PM if you need anymore info. Hope this helps

no, I checked the setting and it can have up to 50 wireless connections I think. I actually did a hard reboot and powered down and reinstalled the usb adapter onto my pc. It started working again and I tried an HP laptop and it worked at the same time. So that's good; I'm nervous to try the mac laptop b/c it might screw up everything again. Wonder if there's a compatibility issue w/ the mac and desktop on the same wireless network.
