Trouble with CD Burner

I have a Yamaha 24x CD burner, had it for a couple of years. But I recently bought a new CD-R spindle (50 count) from Best Buy. They are Imation. I burned the first 3 or 4 with no problems, but then I ran into some trouble. The next 15-18 stopped after about 6% completion. "Track Following Error" is what it reads. I use Nero btw. I also tried to do it through Windows Media Player 9, but that also didnt work. I found an old HP CDR and that worked well, so its the new CD-Rs that are the problem, is what I am thinking. I gave them to a buddy of mine and the first one worked right away, so I took them back.

I have used these Imations before with no problem. So, I am thinking that the Yamaha needs to be cleaned or realligned. Anyone done this before or encounter any of these same problems? Thanks.

did you install any software lately (between the time it worked and didn't)? You may have a program that's checking your hard drive or using some cpu causing the burn to fail. Make sure everything is disabled or closed before you start the burn. You may also try running adaware, spybot and/or a virus scan to make sure your computer is cleaned up.

Ya, I thought that could be the case so I uninstalled/reinstalled. I run ad-aware every week, but it still didnt work.
I just recently bought a new hard drive after I did all of that (old one went out) so there is nothing on there. Either it cant read these discs for some reason or it needs to be cleaned. But having a different type of CDR work in between all the failed ones, has gotten me confused.
