tree removal?

Can anyone recommend a guy or a company for taking out a tree in my backyard? Didn't even notice until today after a 25 foot long branch came crashing to the ground that this tree is about 75% dead now. Tree is about 50 feet tall...maybe more. Ironically enough Ive spent a lot of my spare money lately on landscaping the backyard so am hoping to get this done cheaply! Appreciate any recommendations here!

Location?

In Austin, John Ogden is a reputable, fairly priced, 1 man operation. you may have to wait though. He'll optionally chip or haul off the debris... unknown if he removes stumps.

Yeah that's an important piece of info I left out- I am in Austin so I'll give John Ogden a call and see how it goes. thanks!

I used Davey Tree Service last year for this in Austin. They will give you a free estimate and they can probably do it within a couple of days. They showed up on time, got it done quickly, no problems, & didn't hound me with calls afterwards. But I do like supporting small, keep Austin weird businesses.

i used brent's tree service in 07 to clean up the trees in my yard and remove 2 (one small, one ~45'). they have a free estimate and there's a 10% online discount. they were quick and did a great job.

What is a ballpark estimate of what it costs to remove a tree that size? I have a 40 ft tall tree that keeps dropping large branches. I had a trimming company come out last year to remove most of the dead branches. Now there are plenty more and I'm guessing the tree is on the decline. It was a very poorly placed tree anyway... too close to my foundation (4 feet from the corner of my house).

i'll see if i can find my receipt. should be around my desk somewhere. i was really shocked how expensive tree trimming/removal is. i want to say the 45 ft'er was pretty pricey. had to do it, hack berry that had been trimmed for power lines was leaning towards my office window.

We used Davey also to remove a monster cottonwood tree in our back yard after very large limbs started crashing down randomly. Involved a crane and a bucket truck and carrying the cut branches over our neighbors' house before putting them on the ground. It was so cool that after they started setting up, I took the day off work to sit outside with my then 4 yo son and watch it. But I'm glad the neighbors weren't home to see it.

Davey was great and not any more expensive than the smaller operations I called.
