What trees do I keep??

Clearing the lot in a week or so.

We know we want to keep about 6 pines that are about 90 feet from our house.

We also know to avoid tallot-berry trees (Chinese tallots?) But we also found 2 sweetgum trees (About 10 ft tall) and wanted opinions.... Should we keep the sweetgums??? Are they a good tree to keep???

Also, the pines previously mentioned couldn't effect us... but they might fall into a neighbors yard in case of a storm. Would we be liable, or would they if a pine tree (located on our property) crashed through their house?

The trees are NOT close enough to the neighbors to be a nuisance... they won't have many nettles or pine cones dropping in their yard... But they are definitely close enough to create problems should strong winds come along.

Sweetgum trees are good, native trees, but they are messy. They drop small balls with spikes on them, old bark and small branches and such.

Chinese Tallow trees are a pest and should be eradicated whenever possible as you mentioned (you had the spelling wrong).

Falling trees and liability

You'd be well served to get a landscape person out there for an hour or so, to help you identify what to keep and what to cut down.

Ditto on the Tallow trees.

Sweetgums are love/hate. Good shade, great fall color, but oh man............those gumballs.

As for worrying about pines falling..............only in a very rare circumstance of a patenly obvious dead tree that is neglected by the homeowner, and falls onto a neighbor's property, would you be potentially liable.

And FWIW.......my parents have 6 or 7 HUGE pines in thier yard which have withstood hurricanes........so I'd put that way down the list of my worries.
