John Travolta's son, Jett, suffered a seizure, fell and hit his head today. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Prayers go out to them. No parent should have to bury a child.

I deal with lots of people who lose children. It is a terrible, horrific tragedy. Why is Travolta's more special than the rest that it deserves its own thread and CNN and GMA headlines?

And no, I'm not sorry for thread shitting on something so ironic (the thread and news, not the death.)

As far as the story receiving large headlines on news web sites, I'm sure they get quick feedback on which stories are being read the most. Travolta's son dying or Hamas being bombed? Spot a trend that one story is "hot", and then you move it up in the headlines.

"Get the widow on the set, we need dirty laundry"

The Link

We can all agree any death of a child is sad.

That said, the real story is whether this kid was, in fact, autistic but the Travoltas didn't want to admit/treat it because they are Scientologists. Or if he had this Kawawaski disease, were they properly treating it?

I have trouble believing he hit his head on the tub and died. Dyring that way is very, very, very difficult to do.

And on the media point, yes, I agree it is totally absurd to look at up the gym and see CNN saying "Breaking News" and then having about the death of a Hollywood star's child. But that's the culture we live in, sadly.

Very remote chance this kid had Kowasaki's disease. It is usally in the toddler age (2-5) quite rare, and usally occurs in kids in an Asian country. I'm quite sure Scientology played a big role in the whole cover-up of this young man's life and death. They are saying he contracted the disease thru chemicals in the home, carpet etc. Funny how his sister is just fine. I think he had more issues than mere autism, but was left untreated by the cult rules. Having a seizure and hitting head is plausible to me, but why didn't anyone notice he never came out of the bathroom. And what healthy 18 yo needs a caretaker. Shame on the Travolta's for being embarrassed of their son, when their fame and money could have established some type of foundation for whatever he had (personally I think it was multiple health issues) I'm sure they are hurting as any parent would be, but I also blame them for not treating any type of mental illness or epilepsy due to their "beliefs". Ugghh. I know way too much about Scientology, and it scares the hell out of me.

I have never been a Travolta fan but I can feel sympathy for him and his family for their loss.

My grandfather divorced my grandmother and remarried. His new wife was a Christian Scientist. He had emphasemia and they did not seek medical help until it was too late. After his death she must have chucked her Christian Scientist beliefs because she went to see the doctor at the drop of a hat. I always felt her beliefs had killed him and he should have lived several more years if he had proper medical care.

Are we quick to blame Scientology here? They said the kid was alone for a while. I don't think he was ashamed of the kid. He took him everywhere, according to the article.

bedhead,

" In 2003, Kelly Preston told Montel Williams that when Jett was 2, he became ill with flu symptoms, including fever, rashes and swollen lymph nodes, before a doctor diagnosed him with Kawasaki disease."

it's just sad for anyone one to lose a child. prayers for the family

he was a toddler when he was first diagnosed. he had health issues since due to having that as a child.
they are unsure of the cause but chemicals may have played a role so they changed things to keep him safe and may be why the daughter did'nt get it

Not trying to start a war or anything, but here are some facts about the disease. In one of the first reports, it was mentioned that Jett was treated through "cleansing" rituals of Scientology to rid his body of toxins. Suddenly that fact is being omitted.
I feel for anyone who loses a child, but a cleansing ritual will not help if Jett suffered from, say epilepsy, or a lingering heart issue. If he were only being seen by Scientologist physicians, I know from experience their minds are not open to the model of what you might call normal medical practices.

At this point, all is speculative excepts for the fact that a young man has died, and there is a chance that his death was needless. I pray for the Travolta family and can't imagine their loss, but based on my medical knowledge he did not die from Kawasaki's disease. At most, it could be complications form the disease. Why not just say that? I j fear in my heart that Scientology is involved, and with their billions of $$,. we will probably never know the true story. (not that is really any of our business) Peace to all, and be grateful for your healthy family in this new year.

Kawasaki Disease
What is Kawasaki disease?

Kawasaki (KAH'wah-SAH'ke) disease is a children's illness. It's also known as Kawasaki syndrome or mucocutaneous (mu"ko-ku-TA'ne-us) lymph node syndrome. It and acute rheumatic (roo-MAT'ik) fever are the two leading causes of acquired heart disease in children in the United States.

Who gets Kawasaki disease?

About 80 percent of the people with Kawasaki disease are under age five. Children over age eight are rarely affected. The disease occurs more often among boys (over 60 percent) and among those of Asian ancestry. But it can occur in every racial and ethnic group. Over 4,000 cases of Kawasaki disease are being diagnosed annually in the United States. Less than 1 percent of those who get it die.

What happens to those with Kawasaki disease?

The symptoms of Kawasaki disease include...

fever
rash
swollen hands and feet
irritation and redness of the whites of the eyes
swollen lymph glands in the neck
irritation and inflammation of the mouth, lips and throat
Doctors don't know what causes Kawasaki disease, but it doesn't seem to be hereditary or contagious. Scientists whevidence strongly suggests it's who've studied it think the disease is caused by an infectious agent such as a virus. It's very rare for more than one child in a family to develop Kawasaki disease. Less than 2 percent of children have another attack of Kawasaki disease.

In as many as 15 to 25 percent of the children with Kawasaki disease, the heart is affected. The coronary arteries or the heart muscle itself can be damaged.

New bonus Info:

Preston blamed household cleaners and fertilizers, and said that a detoxification program based on teachings from the Church of Scientology helped improve his health, according to People magazine. Others said Jett was prone to seizures.
Based on my knowledge, there is no way the "Church" would have allowed Jett to be administered an anti-eliptic. Just tragic.
