Traveling west on 290 from Houston to Austin

We were planning to visit my brother in Cypress today, but are worried about the traffic from evacuees on 290 West Monday morning. Anyone have any insight? I'm having flashbacks from a few years ago when Rita caused that to be an 8 hour drive.

Houston isn't evacuating so you should be fine.

If you go to the Houston Chronicle webpage, you can click on "traffic" and then click on the list of cameras. There are live cameras on all of the major highways, including 290.
