Traveling to Greece

I'm looking to plan a post-graduation trip to Greece during the last week of May with a group of 4-5 people. We are thinking about Athens for a few days, and then island hopping. I've heard Santorini, Iso, and Mykonos are pretty awesome. Anyone have suggestions on places to go? Also, for those of you who have gone, would you recommend using a travel agent? Basically any tips y'all might have would be great. Thanks.

Oh, and we only have about 10 days and will be looking to do things somewhat economically.

We did this last summer:

Athens - 2 Nights
Ferry to Mykonos - 3 Nights
Ferry to Ios - 3 nights
Ferry to Santorini 2 nights, cheap flight back to Athens and flew out from there.

Are you basically just wanting to party for 10 days or relax?? I'll be happy to provide you the info and my opinions on any of these places.

This was invaluable to us when we planned our trip to Athens in '04.

One of my favorite things we did was to go to Sounion to watch the sunset and then found a little place to eat in Lavrio. Also found the house we rented through that site. Very helpful site!

We are definitely looking to party the majority of the time. We might actually only have about 7 days. I am a big history buff but most of my friends aren't, so would it be better to spend only one day in Athens instead of two and the rest on the islands?

blingbling, I'd love to get your opinions on the those islands because those were the ones we were looking at.

Partying should not be much of a problem. One thing that was not hard to get used to was the way the Greeks approach the evening meal. We are so used to getting in and out of a restaurant in 90 min or less herein the US. When we got ready to leave a place after only being there an hour or so, the owner usually came over to make sure everything was OK, offer us some more ouzo or something, and get us to stay longer.

When you are in a restaurant, that table is yours for as long as you want to stay. Downtown Athens was like what I imagine New York City to be like at night - always moving.

Have a great time. It is one place I would go back to in a heartbeat if I had 2-3 weeks to spend there.

Athens was cool for about the 3 hours we spent visiting the parthenon etc. and that was it so i agree, if you're on a time crunch - move on. Athens really kind of sucks other than that.

Mykonos was cool - best beaches but most expensive island as well.

os was probably the craziest place I've ever been and a blast.

Santorini was def more chill but the views were amazing and it was nice to relax at the local beech bars after partying harder than I thought possible the previous 6 nights.

Ios is a must though and stay here. The Link - Make sure you stay in the hotel portion though - the camping area is def roughing it.

I seriously got in between 8-10AM from going out all 3 nights. People eat dinner around 9, pregame 1-2 and it peaks from 3-6. Great times

We stayed here in Mykonos in a "beach cabin" which was def roughing it. The Link

The beach was awesome there but if I went back I would stay some place in mykonos town and then just take the bus to the beach at during the day rather than vice-versa.

Let me know any other questions. I would book flights/ferr'ys in advance and you might consider flying to mykonos as well if you're cramped for time. We booked our ferry's when we got to Athens and almost got screwed - got some of the last seats available.
