Trash Can Smoker?

I can't say that I would be interested in eating anything out of a galvanized trash can. It is probably safe but if you happened to get it hot enough its very toxic.

From a smoking perspective it would work ok. It would use more fuel than something heavier. It will lose lots of heat when you pull the lid off. You will have to unload it to add wood/water.

It is like a trailer house, you could live one, but why? There are so many better alternatives to even consider this one.

Have a friend whose parents who did a 'garbage can cookout' for one of our fraternity parties one weekend. Used a similar can, except they had water in the bottom, then a grate, and stacked alternating layers of meat (different kinds of sausage, chops, etc.), vegetables (corn, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, etc.) all the way to the top of the can.

Set the can on top of a couple of cut pieces of I-beam, and kept a fire underneath going all day. Not a smoker, but more of a steam cooker. Turned out some unbelievable food that tasted great, and just fell apart it was so tender. Good times.
