Transporting vehicles (long distance)

Any recommendations for transporting a Honda Civic from California to Texas? From what I have dug up online, it appears to be about $800-$1000 to have it shipped door to door by a company that specializes in auto transport. If I bundle the auto with a van line move, I am also led to believe that this will cost quite a bit more than $1000.

Do those numbers sound about right? Rather than just driving it myself -- any other ideas?

gotta be cheaper than that. i had a tahoe shipped from dallas to nyc in may of 06 and it was 750. not sure who the company was though. where are you getting quotes from?

Is it typically more expensive to have a van line move your car with all of your other stuff? I hear they charge by weight, so a car is obviously going to jack up the total weight of the move.

I have received quotes from companies through moving.com and other online lead generators.

I shipped a car from Florida to Texas in April '06 for $790. The vehicle rode on a "wedge" trailer that was not enclosed. The trailer could fit three cars and was being pulled by an ordinary F-350 or something similar.

To ship fully enclosed I was told is more expensive.
