Transplant Oak tree and shock

Just put in a new Live oak about 4 inches in diameter and about 12 feet tall. I dug a hole twice the diameter of the tree bulb and not as deep as the bulb. I filled it in with garden soil and put mulch on top. I watered deeply the first day to let the soil set. I staked the tree and just in time for the monsoon we got on Sunday.

I am noticing the tree is increasingly getting brown at the ends in some areas and working its way up some braches. This is shock right? I've read multiple ways to deal with the shock, but looking for more advice. As you can tell I am new at this tree transplanting stuff, but I just want to make sure that I didnt buy a crap tree.

Keep watering it. Give your new tree 5 gallons of water a day for the first month and every other day for the next month. The larger the root ball, the longer it takes to get established. A tree that size may not be established for up to a year.

Once or twice a week, water the tree with some Root Stimulator mixed in. It will probably look terrible all year. I wouldn't get concerned unless it still looks bad by the start of summer next year. Moving a tree that size is tough. Keep it wet (not too wet) and don't worry too much if you aren't getting much shade from it this year.

I transplanted one about that size two years ago, and I expect it to finally look good this year. The last two years I was just trying to keep it from ending up in the wood pile.

Water + root stimulator= success. The above posters are correct. I do not expect it to take a year or more for you to see results.

Thanks. Thats pretty much what I was getting from some google searches. Everyone pretty much says that it might take a couple years for the tree to get rid of the shock. I will do what you have said. Thanks agin.

I agree with the last post. Once a month is plenty. Liquid seaweed is a good and natural root stimulator.
