Trail Mix

So I am back in an office 9-5 and need to munch on stuff to make it through the day. Had some tasty trail mix this weekend and just went by Randall's and then Whole Foods for some. Considering the cost, I think I need to look into making it myself. Who's got some recipes for nuts and raisins and stuff?

If I go any place else that sells bulk foods, I usually grab some of the following:

Yogurt covered raisins
cashews
sunflower seeds
pumpkin seeds
regular raisins
pine nuts

I tend to go heavy on the cashews, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds.

I don't know that there really is any real recipe. Just throw together a bunch of dried fruits and nuts that you like. I use dried blue berries and/or dried cranberries, peanuts, sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts, and yogurt covered raisins. Sometimes I'll add chocolate chips or marshmallows. Even though I don't really like nuts, I tend to put more nuts in my mix than anything else, just because the dried fruits or chocolate can really overpower the flavor, but everybody is different.

Dried cranberries and blueberries are the ****. I also like raw peanuts in my trail mix.

Dried pineapple or mango is awesome too, but it's kinda hard to find the unsweetened variety, which is a lot, lot, LOT better.

peanuts - cheap filler, saltiness
soy beans - crunchy and healthier than peanute
raisins - cheap filler
craisins (dried cranberries) - for sourness. Watch the ingredients, sometimes the first ingredient is sugar.
mnm's - for sweetness
magic ingredient: wasabi peas. the ones from austinuts are pretty hot, the ones at sunharvest are weak.

When I was a pedicabber, I would share, and everyone loved it.

Thanks GHoward.

Where can I buy all those things on the cheap, or does that place exist? I see all the nuts and what not at Randall's, but it seems like I am going to have to make a ton of the stuff and it's going to cost around $40 (or more) to do it.

I'm thinking almonds, peanuts, golden raisins, craisins, sunflower seeds, yogurt covered raisins, dried apples. Wasabi peas sound good, but how will that go over w/ all the sweets I have picked?

My mom used to make a trail mix that included coconut flakes, dried banana, M&M's, peanuts, walnuts, and various other ingredients.
