Tragedy at Houston concert

"Astroworld Festival" in Houston, featuring rapper Travis Scott. 8 dead, 25 hospitalized, many injured. This is vaguely reminiscent of that Who concert in the 1970s where dozens were trampled under foot. At the Who concert, the crush/stampede occurred when they opened the doors. Here, people were packed in like sardines in non-seat standing room leading up to the stage.

"A sea of fans rushed towards the stage just minutes after the music started..."

The performer temporarily stopped the show, then started it back up, performing over an hour after the deadly stampede crush. A lawsuit has been filed against Travis Scott and his music/promotion company. Scott has cancelled his next show in Las Vegas.

Lots of nice stories, but nobody will cut to the chase. The incompetent County Judge, swept into office with NO experience by straight ticket voting, has yet to answer any questions or take any responsibility.

1) Why was the Houston Fire Department not on site, but rather kept staged away from concert?

2) The approximately 300 security guards (mainly lardass guys in yellow shirts) were outnumbered 50,000 to 300, but all they did was shuttle "dignitaries" into the VIP area.

The 14 year old was a good kid, great baseball player at Memorial HS. He wasn't your typical 14 yr old in that he was 6'+, so this wasn't a case of the "little kids" getting run over.

The county judge needs to be held accountable for her incompetence and for permitting such an event without HFD on site to administer first aid and help.

Sorry for the West Mall response, Dion, but the mickey mouse reports coming out without facts is more than a little repulsive.

A criminal probe has been launched (obviously it won't be against the Country Judge), we'll see where it goes. The rapper himself is in some very hot water, as he apparently stopped for a short while, then continued with the concert. Venue managers, concert promoters, the security company, the rapper himself. There's plenty of blame to go around.

Also, reports are that someone(s) at the concert was going around with syringes injecting people with drugs.

Hidalgo deflects:

"Harris County Judge Lina Hildago called for an “objective, independent” investigation into the tragedy, as she spoke about the rap festival being attended by 50,000 fans when the stampede took place.

“Perhaps the plans were inadequate. Perhaps the plans were good but they weren’t followed,” Hildago said. “The families of those who died, everybody affected, deserves answers.”

She is keeping a pretty low profile. Normally she is a Shelia Jackson Lee clone, scrambling wherever necessary to get in front of a camera.. She was asked a couple of questions, ignored them, and is in her bunker somewhere under a rock.

I didn't know who Travis Scott was until this, and have no reason to defend or condemn him. That said, I have been to enough concerts (none of them rap) that i know it is frequently impossible for the act on stage to know what's happening in the audience, particularly when they number upwards of 50,000.

Lots of barbs flying at various people, I'm just sitting back to see if the truth ever comes out.

Chop,

The reports are true. One of the security guards passed out and was transported to the Medical Center. Once there it was discovered that he had a needle prick on his neck (IIRC) where he was injected with what a preliminary report said was fentynol (sp).

I worked at the Erwin Center in college. Never were there as many fights, disturbances, and people getting ejected from the arena as there were at the Bobby Brown concert.

I stopped working that genre of music after the Bobby Brown show (his show was actually pretty good, the man has talent. It was the nonsense going on in the audience that ruined the evening for many).
