Traffic Court in Williamson Co.

I was wondering if the brilliant legal minds that reside on Hornfans could give me some advice on Williamson County Traffic Court.

I got a ticket in the middle of May in Georgetown on I-35, of course it was a construction zone, the whole length of I-35 is a construction zone right now it seems, and workers were present. First off, the deputy constable when he gives me the ticket hands me a piece of paper that has all the fines listed and circles one that he says I will pay and also circles the JP I need to contact from a listing at the top of the paper of all the JPs in Wiliamson County.

When I get home I start reading the paper and find out the fine is wrong, since it is a construction zone and workers present I can't get deferred and I have to contact the court for the fine amount. This is where it gets sticky, I call the court, they can't find the ticket but tell me to send the paper in with my plea and the amount of the fine which is $245. Wanting to prolong as possible the hit to my wallet, I ask for the 30 day extension. They say no problem, just send the paper in with a plea and no money, we will know you want to get the extension and we will send you something in the mail.

Well, I wait and wait and nothing in the mail. I figure I must have misunderstood her and just decide to send the fine amount in by the 20th of July which is roughly 30 days from when I sent the paper plea in without the fine. Yesterday, in the mail, I recieve a notice from a different Williamson County JP Court telling me I have failed to correctly respond to charges filed against me, send money or appear ASAP, your case is currently in the warrent process, etc., etc., etc.

I call the this JP and they tell me, Oh, we made a mistake, we will dismiss in our court and send it over to the right one(which is the one I originally sent the info to and never heard anything from), and you should call them in about a week and see what they say.

I was wondering if I have any grounds for taking this to the Judge and making an appeal for dismissal or should I just send in the $245 and be done with it.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight any can provide.
