I wasn't able to go to the meet but apparently Chalonda Goodman took a fall in the 100m and did not look good on her fall. Suppose to get an MRi soon on her status.... I would imagine if the folks in Austin have Austin American Statesman newspaper, it might get reported there??

Sad news about Goodman, in particular as she has apparently been suffering from an injury all year long. But I have to say that I am really excited about our women right now. Obviously we aren't at a point where we can compete with the Ags, LSU, Tennessee and Indoor champion Oregon this season, but things are looking fantastic for next year and subsequent seasons. Cooper ran the nation's fastest 400 hurdles time at the Texas Relays and this past weekend ran the second fastest 400m in the country. And on top of that three Horns ran sub 53 secs in the 400, a fourth ran a sub 54, and two others on the squad are also capable of fast times in the event (including a former HS 400m champion who transfered in and hasn't competed this season). Also this weekend another sophmore Behm knocked 24 secs off her PB and ran the fastest 5000m by a Horn since 1986...it's been a while since we've had a runner ranked top 10 in the nation in a distance event. Malone has developed into one of the country's best jumpers, Masterson has put some impressive heights for a freshman in the PV, and once healthy I think there's little doubt that Goodman will be one of the nation's top sprinters. When you combine this with who we have coming in next season it's hard not to be excited about what the future might hold. Peter is one of the country's best HS sprinters, Dowie is among the best 400H and 400m junior runners in the world, and Hall is one of the best incoming middle distance runners in the nation. All told the eight recruits for 2010 rank as one of the best classes ever for the Horns...I can't wait to see how things develop.

Great job by the ladies this weekend, in particular considering the two injuries and admitted lack of depth this season. Their 3rd place finish at the conference championships bodes very well for the future. I am in awe of Cooper's performance...she finished 3rd in the 400m and less than an hour later competes in the 400h and takes 2nd, and then an hour after that runs a leg in the 4x400 which also takes 2nd...that's three 400m events within the span of approx two hours. And Malone winning the LJ and finishing 3rd in the TJ, and also runing a leg on the 4x400...terrific stuff from both Angele and Chantel. It was also great to see the Horns take three of the top five spots in both the 400m and the HJ; the team really made the most of what they had this year, and it's hard not to get excited when you look at who returns and who we have coming in next season.

We would probably have easily got second place if Destinee Hooker had remained for her senior year even though you can't blame her for taking advantage of the opportunity that she had.

Would of, could of, should of Bill. World class athletes are not going to stick around for 4 years.

Beth and Bubba do a great job on the world stage and with their world class people. However, this philosophy will not bring home conference and national championships on a consistent basis.

I have given up on any changes, and try not to get pissed at constantly being beaten by schools who do not have the resources available to all of Texas’ athletic endeavors.

I know what you mean Viper and I agree. That is the problem with the Men's Basketball team. We can't keep the players to stay for all four years and of course you can't blame them for going pro and the money. But with our talent the best we have done is split with the Aggies for the past several years (and got close to being swept this year) because even though the Aggies can't compare to us putting players in the NBA they are good at recruiting players that stay four years. We were fortunate that Destinee stayed for her senior year in volleyball.

I was not impress with this year team women or mens. But next year will be better for both of them especially the womens teams. The Mens team has a great recruit coming in S.Evans and the womens team is loaded I cant even name all of them. I am for sure will fill a 4x100 Womens and Mens next year

Bev there is a young lady that run track at Bradley Tech her name is Desiree Bryant in Wis. great sprinter, please recruit her

Big Committment from Craig Lutz this past weekend... Regining NXN Champ.

Agreed Dezerea Bryant would be a great addition though I dunno if she is considering Texas or not.

and btw, Sherod Evans is 2011 recruit (with a huge focus on football too).

Men's Recruiting Class ain't looking shabby so far.
Add Kyle Thompson & Will Antkowiak to Sheroid Evans and Craig Lutz for this class!

iF yall want specific times, u can prolly find them with a search but:

Will Antkowiak State Champ in the 3200 and 2nd in the 1600 i believe
Kyle Thompson State Champ in 800
Craig Lutz Reigning Nike XC National Champion
Sheroid Evans National Jr 400H champ and 100/200 State Champ

sorry looking up times on the phone and posting them is a lil time consuming...But all i can say is this 2011 is gonna be a great class.

CC had a good wknd:
Men's won the Princeton and Concordia events
Women's raced in Pre-Nats and Concordia (won concordia)....

At Pre-Nats, the team was one of the surprising squad. The Freshman (Hall and Siebert) plus Behm helped lead the squad! This team did really well, with all the ranked teams who ran in the race.... The race was split into two different races , but they placed 5th in their bracket and beat a good number of ranked teams. Ladies did some nice work

Really great performance by the women...the event was split into two groups and the Horns finished 5th in their group, and 9th overall out of 78 squads. This meet featured 18 of the top 30 teams in the country so we actually beat a whole slew of highly ranked programs. In addition to the top 30 there are another 10 teams in the also receiving votes category of the national poll, so going into this meet we weren't even considered a top 40 program...but we sure are now! Even better is that there isn't one senior among our top 5 finishers, and two of our top three are freshmen. The program has come a long way and has a really bright future.

Don't discount Freshman Sara Sutherland. She won the Concordia Invite by over 20+ secs (prolly would have ran faster if there was stiffer competition too). Maybe not quite ready yet, but I think she will be a good distance runner if she can stay healthy and continue to work on the college workout routines/demands. The Women's Freshman Class is going to be great. I feel that pretty much majority of the freshman will be big time athletes for this program, if not now, soon. Keep an eye on them.... Also, Megan Siebert has been a wonderful addition and a wonderful story for Texas! This girl bleeds orange and u just gotta feel proud of her, overcoming challenges and pursuing her life goals. She has been such a nice surprise for this squad, i can't wait to see her working Sisson for the next 4 yrs.

The men's squad did great work. A lot of them shaved a lot of secs from last yr's Princeton race vs. this yr's. This is also w/out Rory T.... Ryan Dohner is going to do some great things... With addition of Craig Lutz and potentially a few other distance runners, they are going to climb up the national scene for XC.

Thanks for the info on the Concordia Invite...I kept waiting for a recap of both men's and women's races on Texassports. Usually they have an article about all events, even when we're sending our "B" team, so to speak. Anyway I eventually found all of the results on Txrunning.com. Agree that we had some good performances there as well.

Craig Lutz is #2 ranked HS cross country. See Dyestat.com.. which has his picture on front page with Horns Up.

TEXROB, did u see that Craig was on the cover of Rise ESPN Magazine too?? This guy is going to be a stud for the team a la Mazzano days

BTW... Steve Sisson should get some props. He has taken a lot of distance runners who were not All-american runners out of high school (nor 1st team State) and turned them into college runners! Marielle Hall is really his first AA runner and boy, the routine they both are working on has really vaulted Hall into potential AA as a freshman. she is definitely one that is under the radar out of all the AA High Schoolers.

Megan Siebert wasn't one of the top State runners last yr, but she beat some the top Freshman from the state of TX like Amanda Russell. I'm excited to see how she does. Megan Siebert development will be interesting to follow.

There were a few athletes that were injured early in their career and it's nice to see them all starting to get healthy and strong. Everyone has continued to improve on their PRs each year and it's great to see both the athlete's and coach's effort. Athletes like Julie Amthor, Laleh M, Christina Henderson, Alli Mendez have really put themselves in good position to help contribute to this team, in their bid for a trip to nationals... I think they will also have a good chance to help the team in Track (scoring in the conference meets).

Hopefully Sisson can snag another All-american recruit or two. This team could be really good.

The new cross country rankings are out and the women went from being well outside of the top 40 to no. 15....a huge jump and very well deserved. The men are still ranked also, dropping just one place from 29th to grab the last spot in the poll at no. 30. Congrats to both teams.
