Tournament Tickets

Hey Everyone!

I've been watching the boards here for a while but really havent felt the need to post.

I graduated in 06', obviously really stoked about the bball success of late and had a question for you seasoned vets.

What is the best way to go about getting tournament tickets? Who knows how far we'll go (I think we have Final Four Talent), but its quite obvious that we WILL be going. Does anyone have any good resources? I know i'm not high enough on the Longhorn Alum list to get anything.

Any help would be much appreciated, in the mean time i'm going to try to do some research of my own!

Ok, so 1st and second round easy. Elite Eight and down should be difficult. Which round is hardest to get?

On the NCAA Ticketing Website it shows a few options available.
NCAA Ticketing Page. Beyond that there is always Stubhub/Razorgator for secondary market stuff, but those prices are already insane!

Have you guys used either of the services on the NCAA Ticketing Page from above, Prime Sports or FirstDIBZ? Prime Sports seems to be a package company (tickets, hotel, un-needed parties and CRAP probably). FirstDibz I dont completely get...that one is the official marketplace for the NCAA....I went to the site and it showed that you can buy a Texas Final Four booklet (which would be final four and national champ) right now for $79 (upper deck)...but its not for the ticket...its for dibs on the ticket...hence the DIBZ i suppose. ..so you'd definately have to pay face on top of that later...but still sounds like the best deal...but then again its only for the final four...so thats a risk.

Anyone used these guys?

Not sure how easy it will be to get first or second round tickets, actually. You can try to request tickets through UT after the brackets are announced. Season ticket holders who are LHF members get first priority, but sometimes they have enough tickets available for non-ticket holders or non-members. But public tickets to the games in many sites, including Little Rock (which is where UT will most likely go), are sold out, so you may be stuck getting tickets from a broker like TicketCity.

Here's a link that describes the sites and whether tickets are available to each:

The Link

Memphis fans have probably gobbled up the Little Rock tickets, which is why it's sold out there.

Looks like the Midwest and South regional are the only ones NOT sold out for the Elite 8, then Final Four is definitely sold out. I would definitely go to Houston for the elite 8 if we were playing...how sweet would that be...

Then the Final Four in San Antonio...that will be amazing....the stars are aligning!

So I think i'm about to purchase on this First Dibz site...anyone used it???..i want some legitimacy from fellow longhorns...beyond being on the NCAA site.

To me it seems like a stock market for final four booklets ($79 each for upper level, not distant view though), then if the Longhorns make it, the face value is $170 each...sooo...final four and national championship tickets for $249 for each seat?....but only $79 each right now.

and they do it for hotel rooms too, $45 for a reservation of 1 room...if the longhorns go, the room is mine.

So pretty much, if the longhorns go to the final four, i get 4 tickets for about $1000 bucks and a hotel room for whatever they cost that weekend. I'm not sure but I dont think I get the money I paid ($300) if texas does not make it. But looking on Stubhub right now, the tickets are about $600 a piece, meaning if I wait and they make it, i'll be paying at least $2400 to get the same tickets.

Anyone see any reason why this does not make sense...or that i'm wrong about something???

BigPHorn,

If the venue for the first and second round games is sold out contact the schools that are playing there to see if they have tickets available, particularly if the school has to travel quite a distance. Do it first thing on Monday morning after the bracket has been announced.

Several years ago we were able to get tickets to the first round games at the Erwin Center from UW-Green Bay.

Make sure that the tickets they are selling are for both rounds.

Benson32, nice to hear they are legit. I just purchased 4 of these "DIBZ".

Also, when I called in to ask a few questions they gave me a promo code for $10 bucks, if anyone is interested I think the customer service person told me it expires this weekend. The promo is 08Madness , its only $10 in your account, but hey its free

Just a few comments:

FirstDibz (formerly TicketReserve) gives you the option to buy tickets. So not only are you paying for the reserve, but then you'll also have to pay face value for the ticket. Also keep in mind that you have very little idea where these tickets are located. May not seem like a big deal, but I can tell you right now if Texas ends up in San Antonio you do not want to be sitting in the cheap seats in the Alamodome. May seem like a "I just want to be there" type of thing, but it'll be like watching the game on a 3" portable television.

And really the $'s don't make sense. You could wait until seedings are announced and basically do a $100 continuous parlay on Texas in the tournament all the way to the Final Four and make more than enough money for *GOOD* seats, along with the option to hedge your wager anytime you don't feel confident any longer.

If Texas ends up in Houston for the regional, again, you do not want FIRST DIBZ / TR seats. I learned last year that the NCAA Tournament is one of the few sporting events where they actually strive to get the real "fans" the best seats (as opposed to the people with the most money).

Wait and see what other schools are there, and then try and get in on the UT onsale or one of the other 3 school's onsales -- if you're playing a team that isn't anywhere near Texas, then you'll likely be able to get some of their tickets. The tickets you will get from the schools are better than what you'd get off of Ticketmaster and TONS better than what you'd get off of something like First Dibz.

I was late getting tickets last year to San Antonio for A&M and I still managed to get lower level tickets from Tennessee's alotment, while everyone that bought thru Ticketmaster and Stubhub were up in the upper deck for basically the same price.

All of that being said -- go. It is one of the better sporting "events" out there... You get to watch your team in 1, possibly 2 "win or go home" games, with a chance to go to the Final Four. And while they aren't playing? You get to watch other games either live or on television while you wait for your team's next one -- teams that you will be playing in the next round.
