I haven't been into the whole P2p music stealing thing since 1998-2002. I am generally interested in longhorn FB and Live performances that arent available commercially. Question is.......... how much risk am i putting myself in, legally ? I would never use a torrent for a album or movie i could get easily.

Please advise

I use Cox HS internet and mac transmission torrent downloader

Torrents are legal, what you download through them might not... It just depends on whom from and what you download... If the other person has the rights then they are perfectly legal... Music, movies, games, sports, TV all that stuff is probably illegal...

i downloaded the first couple of episodes of "generation kill" via torrents and then kept hearing that HBO was sending out cease&desist letters, so i gave it up...

Use caution with torrents. There are plenty of people out there setting up torrents with the Trojan virus. Other than that I love them.

Torrents are legal.

How you use torrents may or may not be legal.

Most importantly, torrents are the top tool for building botnets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet) which are responsible for most all of the spam in the world, as well as all DDoS attacks. Hackers will infect a popular torrent file with a trojan horse and when you execute the downloaded file, it will turn your computer into a node on a botnet.
