Torrent/flac/ogg help

I'm so new to this stuff and it's perplexing. I am NOT technically inclined.

First of all, I just want to state that I'm downloading concert files from bands that allow fans to record and trade shows, so we're talking about legal file downloading.

Why is it that when I click on the .flac file it says "Access Denied"? How can I be denied access on my own computer?

I downloaded some flac codec and my Windows Media player is able to play the first few seconds before it flips out and then freezes.

Also, how the hell do you search for files in a torrent client anyway? I never get any results when I do a search in the actual client. I was able to download a concert by doing a google search, downloading the torrent file and then loading that up. The fact that I was even able to get that to work amazes me. I deserve a beer for that.

downloading the .torrent file and opening it in a client is the only way to use bit torrent. There is no search feature in any of the clients.

As far as playing the files, I don;t know. I just convert everything to wav to burn to a CD, or to mp3 or wma.

This might help

As for the first part, not sure, are you trying to play the .flac files. I'm not sure what players will do that, I think Winamp may have a plug-in. as previously stated, I just convert to .wav.

As for part 2, once you open the torrent file up with your client and begin downloading, you should be able to look at a details screen tht shows all the files in that torrent (not sure what client you have). You should have your client set up to save in a fairly convenient place (I save to C:/Torrents).

BT kicks ***, so hang in there, it's a little confusing at first but it's worth the effort.

Never heard of that one. If you like it, go for it, but you might have better luck with something like Azereus, BitTornado or TorrentStorm (that's what I use), all are really user friendly and spyware free....

Also, not sure what kind of music you're into, but check out Dimeadozen, used to be Easytree. Music of just about every kind, you'll get hooked very quickly.

Well, naturally I like both kinds of music - country and western. Actually, I'm on a hardcore jazz kick right now. Thanks, I think I'm going to uninstall eXeem and go with Aezerus.

I heard eXeem was harder to track, if you are worried about that sort of thing. But, since you are downloading files that the bands allow, you should go with whatever prevents spyware, etc. the best.

Oh yes.. eXeem. I tried it. It takes a long time to connect, and a long time to search. I gave up on it after a few days. Plus spyware pisses me off. Plus if you are just downloading concert recordings, you probably won't even find them on Exeem.

I am really happy with Azereus, although it is Java based and seems to drive my laptop to a standstill when using it. I only DL files when I am not doing anything else on it.

Winamp has a plug-in for flac files. Flac is a lossless encoding algorithm which is open, meaning anybody can add the ability to play the files without fear of getting sued or having to pay royalties or licensing fees. Plenty of other players support flac. A google search will probably turn up lots of them.

Here's a question I couldn't find answers to. See, I was trying to download 3 concerts. I showed as successfully downloaded, the second was half downloaded, and the third never had any peers connected so it was always at 0%.

However, when I go to the eXeem downloads folder all three concerts are there in their entirety. I still can't freakin figure out a way to play them, but my question is about that third concert - is it normal for me to have the full flac files for the 0% complete download? I can't play them so maybe they're not really there, but my windows explorer is showing it taking up 350 megs of disk space.

the files are not completely there. your os (windows) allocates the full necessary space to store each file before the program even begins downloading. thus you cannot play the file until it is completely downloaded. i believe some bittorrent clients will let you change the storage mechanism to download files in sequence, so that you will be able to play what you have gotten so far. but that will mean slower downloads in most cases.
